Have any of you busted through a plateau by reducing cardio and focusing on fundamental muscle training (rebuilding large groups and doing twice a week with a steady increase). I'm trying this starting this week to see if this will help. I've been at a loss for a couple of months and thought I would give this a whirl.

I had a plateau where I lost little or nothing for 3 weeks, so I started the weight training and it worked for me!! I do about 35-40 minutes of a combination of floor excercies wearing 5# weights and other upper body excercies wearing 3# weights and also using 5# dumbells. When i started doing this, I did not wear any weights on my legs and I used 5# dumbells. I was really sore for awhile and someone told me that your muscles retain water when you work them hard, so a weight loss right away might not happen. ou could actually gain. I didn't gain and I lost 3 pounds after 2 weeks. I continued to lose consistantly and then added more reps and finally now more weight. Everything I've been told and read says to change up your workouts every so often to also enhance a weight loss. Changing things up also gives you a variety of excerciese to do. I also now do supersets. this is where you work the same muscles with a couple different excercies consecutively. The best part is, not only did I start to lose some weight, I lost a lot of inches and I feel stronger and the added benifit is the toning you get from it. I've been doing it for a couple months now so it doesn't take too long to start seeing a gradual change! definately recommend you start some weight training. Good luck!

i forgot to mention, I usually do 5 days of cardio and 3-4 of strength/weight training. A couple of those days I do long workouts of both!

I dont eat red meat. So when I plateau I'll eat about 1-2oz for dinner for about a week and it helps me break the plateau. I did the 6 week body makeover and thats where I learned that trick. I also eat 2oz protein 5 times a day. That works too.
