Cardio - anything that gets your heart pumping. It will burn off the fat.

All ab workouts yield good results when form and execution are correct. Your abs should be stronger and firmer from it.

I suspect what you're looking for is to reduce fat and "tone"(hate that word) your abs. Sorry, that comes from consistent calorie deficit.

Lol, crunches and leg lifts can be done for free to condition your abs.

Wouldn't cardio help put you into calorie deficit?

Not if you're eating that deficit away. Abs are built in the kitchen.

If you're looking for a workout routine (I like somebody else to tell me what exercises to do, haha), the P90X Ab ripper X is tough, but great. I also like Jackie Warner's ab routines, and Amy Dixon. There's probably tons of resources on the web as well, especially YouTube. Women's Health has some good ab workouts.

If you're looking to actually SEE the abs you're developing with your exercise, well, then you've got to get down to a nice low body fat percentage - "lift heavy weights" seems to be the conventional wisdom around here for that, which I do some, though I like to throw a bit of cardio and circuit training in for fun.

I prefer planks over crunches, but either of these will only strengthen your abs, not make them visible. In order to actually see them, you need to lower your body fat percentage by eating at a deficit.

Exactly. I gained weight training for my first marathon because I wasn't tracking my calories and I guess I got hungry from all that cardio and I ate to make up for it and then some!

Thank you! Tone such a buzz word.. Do some planks, leg raises, russian twists (just to name very, very few ab exercises), eat squeaky clean and do some cardio. And yes, if you're in a calorie deficit consistently, any abs you've built from your ab exercises will start to show through :)

Wow more people being silly instead of just being helpful!! I also want to shape my belly up, i do cardio burn, sit ups, body twists, squats and i am almost burning the same amount of calories as i eat. My question is has anyone used an ab circle and did they get results.
