Weight Loss Goals - Advice needed..

I need to lose 75 lbs. It seems like a daunting task. Any support, and tips is welcome.

Like how did you get started, how do you maintain a positive outlook on days when you just want to say the heck with it.

How do you diet in a household where when you say, I'm trying to lose weight the reaction is to go out and buy chocolate and candy. Seems like sabotage to me, but there's got to be a way to deal with it.

I can't help with the sabotage, but for setting goals, a little at a time

For instance you have 75lbs to lose, so how about getting to 70lbs left to go first and see how it goes?

I reckon your first losses will be fairly large so should provide some instant gratification there.

Then a longer term goal, how about seeing if there is a "lose xzz pounds by Easter" group, i bet there is one, last year I joined a lose 14lb by Christmas, and we nearly all got there, with a few falling by the wayside

Add me as friend if #you wish, I started with 70 pounds to lose in August 2012, I still have around 14 to go

I think just set you MFP goals to a healthy weight loss...one pound a week is recommended, I think.

Log all of your food and try to stay close to your goal.

Find some sort of exercise that you can tolerate....I don't say like because, right now, you probably don't like to exercise. It will grow on you though. Then, take that first step out the door. That's the hardest one.

Once you start to lose weight, concentrate on that, and how you look and feel, on the days that you don't really feel like going on.
If you have a bad day, realize it is a bad day, it is NOT failure!

Don't tell anyone you are trying to lose weight, if they are going to sabotage you. Just start cooking and eating healthier and exercising. I really don't have a good tip if they still bring in things to tempt you, except to just not eat it. I know that is hard to do. But, sounds like if you don't eat it, it'll probably be eaten by someone in the house. Put it where you won't be looking at it every time you go to the kitchen, or where ever. Out of sight, out of mind.

Joining MFP and wanting to loose is the first big step. Good for you. Good luck!
  • I have a gym membership, I actually don't mind exercise, its well going and doing it. I'd love to be able to run again. Or not feeling guilty about going and doing it.

I appreciate the tips, really. Its very unhealthy for me to maintain this weight.

I don't know about huge weight loss, seems all i do is gain. I am keeping track of foods, and even though I think I eat a little, some of my choices are pretty bad. Too many calories for certain.

try mini-goals so this journey doesnt seem too daunting. for example, try for a 10% loss of your current body wt, or down 1-2 sizes. just as an FYI- when you do start exercising and your muscles start to strengthen, you may not see the scale move but your clothes should fit better. and, i would recommend a heart rate monitor, i have found MFP grossly over estimates calories burned for hard cardio- that is my experience. the only numbers that are close to my HRM is walking (treadmill). so if/when you eat back your exercise calories, if they are over estimated, you will ultimately be consuming more calories than actually burned. good luck. feel free to friend me if you wish!
  • Is there a specific heart rate range for someone my age and abilities? I've heard several different things.

I would say never deprive yourself of anything you really want just try to do smaller portions. I love icecream so I buy slow churned (1/2 calories) or mini icecream bars for the smaller portions. Fab diets don't work because we all love food!! Late night snacking for me is the worst. For me the trick is to scan my snacks and if I go over my allowed calories think how badly I want something because if I go over today my first workout the next days goes to burning off the yesterday's calories instead of todays.
