Why do i need to enter my weight??

this is supposed to be a fitness pal thing right?, then why did I have to enter my weight if MUSCLE weighs More than FAT?... And in order to Burn fat, you need to build muscle otherwise its all just water weight or muscle-loss, or BOTH!, yikes! Im not trying to do that, i want to make sure than Im losing the fat not the muscle that helps me burn the fat....

burning fat = losing weight while retaining muscle
losing weight = maintaining a reasonable calorie deficit
retaining muscle = heavy lifting + sufficient protein intake

Do some reading on google and such on weight/fat/muscle loss, muscle toning, muscle building (which toning and building are 2 different things. This might be able to answer a large portion of your questions. MFP is a calorie counting app that can also help you track calories burnt during fitness.
and helps you track weight loss or gain...depending on what your goals are.0 -

If you are using any sort of calculator to determine what calories to eat (whether to lose weight, gain weight or maintain), you have to input your weight. Also to get closer calorie burns on exercise, weight matters too. A person who wants to lose weight at 300lbs and someone who wants to lose it at 150lbs have to eat different. Same goes the other way around.0

I fail to see what is the problem here? As long as you don't drop too many calories or refuse to exercise, you're going to lose fat and maintain most of your muscle or more likely build more muscle. This person could think of losing pounds as most or all fat lost (providing she/he is eating enough and getting some major exercise) as a measure of success, but what we see here is now an insecurity about what kind of fat is being lost. Just take care of yourself and do the right thing and it will all come out in the end..... how's that for a string of cliches?0

This fitness pal is basically for you to keep track of your progress. You don't have to I guess, but it makes sense to do so. Pt settings to private and no one will ever know your weight. I feel strongly that myfitnesspal is so you can take proper measures to safely improve your health. You can see the transformation in all aspects, weight, tone, shape, health, everything... I love it. If you don't enter your weight then you probably won't see the true results of your progress...on any level...Good luck...0

The number of calories burned by exercise can depend on your weight. If a 300-pound person goes for a 30-minute jog, they burn more calories than the same jog done by a 150-pound person, because they're carrying around twice as much weight, thus taking more energy to move that extra mass.0

I needed that laugh for today!!!!!! You enter you weight to track your progress...and its pretty motivating to see where others were and where they stand today. it pushes you to make your ticker chart move as well.....at least for me.

Even if you're not here for weight loss, your calorie goal will be based on the amount you weigh.
If you've calculated your calorie needs elsewhere, you can override what MFP suggests.0 -

I think you're making this way more complicated than it has to be.
1. You need to know your weight to help determine an appropriate calorie goal.
2. There is no way you're going to gain a pound of muscle for every pound of fat lost. Not even remotely possible.
3. If you don't want to track weight as a sign of progress....don't. Measure body fat percentage instead.0 -

uhm because you can't know how much you need to eat to maintain, gain, or lose without knowing how much you weigh. What it takes a 200 pound person to lose weight is a lot less then someone who weighs 100 pounds and is trying to lose.
Also, to lose weight you should do cardio to burn calories and gain endurance to be healthier and help speed up losing fat. and then you should lift and make sure you have a lot of protein to maintain and gain muscle to replace the fat.
Also, muscle does not weigh more than fat, 1 pound of muscle weighs the same as 1 pound of fat, it's ONE POUND, it's just that if you took 1 pound of muscle and 1 pound of fat, the muscle is smaller it takes up less space, so someone who weights 150 pounds and is 50% body fat will be a much larger size than someone who weighs 150 pounds and has 15% body fat.
Yes weight isn't the best thing to go off of for health especially if you are in good shape and have a lot of muscle, but if you're trying to lose weight you need to know you weight to know a general range in which to end up in.0 -
