I probably should have mentioned this on the "do you get enough water and how?" thread I just started, but someone else mentioned they also have to pee a bunch there and so I thought I'd ask specifically:
When I drink as much/more water than I need a day, I have to pee like...every 30 minutes almost at certain times of day. It's ridiculous. Is that normal?
For context, I am an overweight but petite-structured (5ft 2in) female 19yrs old and this super-full bladder with enough water thing has always been this way for me. I've been drinking 8 cups or more per day pretty consistently for a few months. Um, and the pee is pretty much clear, if anyone needs to know.... >__>

You don't necessarily NEED eight cups or more if you are eating plenty of water rich foods like fruit and veggies and not a sweaty person. Are you eating enough carbs and electrolytes to hold the water in? Are you sipping or glugging? Are you peeing more often if you drank on an empty stomach?0

I find that when I first start getting back on the "lots of water a day" bandwagon, I have to pee constantly. It's the body flushing out toxins and salt, etc. However; the longer you keep the habit of drinking so much water a day, your body acclimates to it, uses the water and stops flushing it out so often~! LOL0

not true... ive been drinking roughly 1-2 gallons a day for a couple years now and i have to still piss like every hour.0 -
That's pretty normal if your drinking a lot of water. I would pee every 20-30 minutes when I would drink up to 72 oz a day.0

I'm not sure if I'm eating enough carbs/electrolytes or not. I'd say it takes me about 20-30 minutes to finish a bottle, taking several big glugs each sip and then 1/2 an hour or so later I have to pee a bunch of times. I haven't noticed any real difference on a full/vs empty stomach.
Oh, and I don't sweat a lot ever, even when I'm working out really hard. I used to almost never sweat no matter what I did, but after 16-17 I started to a bit.0 -
The following in completely anecdotal:
I drink A LOT, mostly decaf tea, probably around 24 cups a day in addition to water if I'm doing a strength training session. I pee roughly every 45 min to 60 min and I've been doing this for years, since college (I'm now 32). I wouldn't worry about it (but I'm no urologist) unless you have to get up just as much at night. If it's really something you're worried about though, I suggest a call to the doc or a nurse hotline (if your insurance has it).0 -
First , there's no need for excessive water drinking. Drink when you're thirsty, if your pee is pale yellow you're fine. Second, water doesn't miraculously flush out toxins, salt or fat. Too much water will flush out nutrients and minerals that you need though.
You get a lot of hydration just from the food that you eat so go easy on the water and give your kidneys a break!0 -
IF you are losing weight, you may be dropping alot of water. i find when i clean up my dieting and start dropping weight, i am peeing non stop.0

You really don't need to drink so much water that you're spending a lot of time in the bathroom. The recommended 64 ounces of water ever day includes the water that's already in your food. My advice is to drink less water.0

I had to pee all the time when I first started drinking my 8 cups a day. I think my body has gotten used to it, I don't have to go as often now. If nothing else its a good excuse to get up and move!! :flowerforyou:0

Not everybody has the same bladder capacity, so comparisons with others are pretty well moot. If you know your body, plan your day accordingly.0

I'm the same way, I've never been able to do the 8 cups/day routine. I held on for weeks, for this apparent "adjustment period" some people go through, but honestly, it never went away, every 20-30 minutes I HAD to go. My mom is the same way. I drink about half of recommended intake and I'm not typically thirsty.0

It's good sign that you're hydrated...also if your peeing mellow yellow/clear. Only peeing a couple times per day is a pretty good sign that you're actually dehydrated...and it's usually a darker yellow.
I've joked with my boss that I just need to move my computer and desk into the restroom0 -
It's not so bad during the day, but UGH always in the middle of the night I have to get up and walk all the way across my freezing house to the bathroom. I'm tempted to buy diapers.

My feelings exactly. If there's no evidence that you're dehydrated I don't think there's any reason to force yourself to drink 8 cups a day. I'm 5'2" also and would be in the bathroom constantly if I drank that much water. I also have to wonder who came up with the 8 cups rule and whether that should be the standard for everyone. Small women like us only need half as many calories as a large man, so maybe we only need half as much water.0 -

It really depends on what your eating, and drinking, maybe something is irritating you bladder, or you may have a UTI.
Make sure you aren't over doing the water, that is as bad as under hydrating. You will dilute your food nutrients, and may lose some electrolytes you need.
Some foods are natural diuretics too, like green tea and caffeine.
A lot of people forget how much water is in food already, so if you aren't at all thirsty, don't force yourself to gulp it down. I "cup" of water, the recommended 8 a day, is just that, 1 cup (250 mL) a water bottle usually holds at least 500mL. I would count things like decaf tea and coffee in your daily 8.
As long as your urine is pale/straw colored and you are going regularly with no pain or urgency, you are likely fine.

You've found your own solution really: sip slowly over the full day don't scarf it down in twenty minutes and then wait an hour for the next bottle. If you flood the stomach and thus the blood with water, the kidneys will go into overdrive in order to reestablish homeostasis so you will pee the whole lot back out again. Change that, if you are still peeing constantly reduce the amount you drink because you could be flushing out much needed electrolytes.
Also check if you are eating enough carbs and electrolytes, are you eating a balanced diet from ALL the food groups including plenty of beans, lentils, wholegrains, nuts and seeds plus the recommended seven to nine servings of fruit and veggies?0
