Why is sweetened/flavored water so much easier to drink?

I just drank a litre of water with a squeeze of lemon and a little elderflower cordial, easily. Usually drinking water is a total chore unless it's in odd sips or I'm really thirsty.
Why does flavoring water make it so much easier to drink?

Because your body thinks food is coming.0

It tastes better? I'm not sure what you're looking for here but that's my honest answer.0

I am fairly certain I would rather drink my own urine than plain water. It gags me. I can't even stand to have it in my mouth when I am showering. As such, I can completely understand the sentiment here. I could drink a gallon of black coffee well before even a small swallow of water.0

I love water. I drink a ton of water. Flavoring is gross to me, unless you are speaking of coffee or tea....0

Is it? (easier to drink flavoured water) Can't say I've noticed. I like drinking water - nice and cold, freshly poured, on ice especially. Perhaps its just that you are used to drinking sweet or flavoured things - coffee, tea, soft drinks etc. - so a plain liquid like water seems bland by comparison.0

Oh I rarely have sweet drinks. Never sweet coffee or tea, no coke or lemonade, rarely fruit juice. And I like water, I just find it uncomfortable and difficult to drink it in quantity. As in a whole glass or more.
Maybe I'm just odd then.0 -
It definitely depends an individual's personal preference. I'm like you- plain water is more of a "let me chug this down because I'm supposed to" kind of thing. Flavored water, I have no problem with. But I'm getting better at drinking plain water. Just wish it didn't taste so metallic. (It's Nestle Pure Life purified water.)0

I think this might come down to preference. You're more likely to drink a lot of something if you like the way it tastes. I actually prefer plain water.
Now, that being said, some liquids may contain lots of sodium which can make you thirsty thus you drink more.0 -
Because it has flavor.0

Bleah. I can't stand sweetened/flavored water. It tastes really fake to me. IF I need to add flavor to my water I use True Lemon or just cut up a lemon and make lemon water.0
