Trying to be healthy!

When I started my journey, my goals were simple: Lose my tummy, and be strong.
Since I started, I've been paying much closer attention to what's going on in my body. I realized that since I quit smoking a year ago, I've gained 10 lbs that I do NOT want. It's no good at all to do something for your health and then lose health as a result. So I'm trying to lose that extra weight from whereveer it is. I'd say my goal is to lose 15 pounds total and get back down to around 120.
I'm 28 years old, and solidly built. I'm a little wide for my height--broad shoulders, broad hips, heavy thighs. I've got a significant amount of muscle on me, and I want to sculpt that and remove some of the padding from around it. Overall I'm happy with the way I look, but I could definitely stand to be a little less squishy.
My biggest challenge is in the diet itself. I've never put myself on a diet before--Never bothered or tried to limit or restrict calories, avoid certain foods, what have you. When I was younger, I was blessed with a high metablism that let me eat pretty much anything, basically consequence-free. Now that I sit at a desk most of my days, I'm finding that I'm slowing down. So I'm trying to compensate for that late-twenties-slowdown that is unfortunately so frequent. So now that I'm on my very first diet, I'm finding it an interesting challenge to keep it balanced.
I'm currently deployed overseas with the military, and that makes it very hard for me to find a good, balanced diet. My options are very limited. I'm always looking for good advice!
If you want a friend, I'm pretty much always down. I love to exchange ideas and encouragement.
If anyone wants to know a little about me personally: I'm a big ol' nerd. I like the sci-fi and the gaming--I do more pen&paper than video or computer, but I do enjoy oldschool video games circa. the SNES Era. I'm a voracious book-reader, and out here I go through between three and six books per month. I adore music and am a not-unskilled vocal performer with a particular interest in Elizabethan-era pub songs and traditionals--Particularly the bawdy ones.
So that's my introduction.
