This is how my family eats

i come from a family of eaters.
growing up, we almost always ate catheads.
lots of grilling, and boils.
I am not giving any of this up permanently, but im trying to find a way to cut down on the consumption.
id like to be able to eat a meal without it taking most of my calories.
any suggestions?
Do lean meats actually have less calories than regular meats?
I know deer meat is relatively low in calories, however its not always available.
suggestions??

Fat is much more calorie dense than protein, so yes lean cuts of meat are considerably lower in calories.
Animal fats are not a particularly healthy source of fat so eating lean meat and getting fats from other sources (fish, nuts, avacados ...) is a healthier way to eat0 -
The only red meat in this house is moose, elk and antelope. Free range, natural, grass fed and so Lean! LOVE IT!0

So are you asking what to eat of the family food or what you should cook for yourself?0

Yes, switching from fatty meats to lean meats can save a lot of calories. Fat as 9 calories per gram (protein and carb only have 4 calories per gram) so the amount of fat in your diet can make a big difference. Your body needs fat so don't go too low, but do keep an eye on it.
Many vegetables are good on the grill. Most squashes and root vegetables do very nicely. As do cauliflower, broccoli, onions and, well, pretty much anything that won't burn quickly or fall through the grate. Add these to your grill along with lean meat. Fish is great on the grill to.
Also, when making side dishes really load up on non-starchy vegetables. Use vinaigrette dressing rather than sour cream or mayo based to drop the calories (and they stay fresh longer out in the heat).0 -
