Personally, I would sign up immediately (as long as they had knowledgeable staff and decent equipment).
I think it would remove a barrier that so many obese people have (or at least I do), the stress of walking into a gym full of fit people who you are staring at you like you got lost on the way to McDonald's. Whether that feeling is real or perceived, it's a barrier that this might help.
