trying to switch to vegetarian lifestyle...help me

I have recently made the decision to attempt the switch. I am really motivated and excited and I love to cook. So those things are in my favor. However not a single friend of mine is vegetarian so I have to put an S.O.S out there to anyone who is also attempting to switch over,or who is already a vegetarian and wants to help me along the right path.

I do plan on eating fish still. I realize that this by definition is not a TRUE vegetarian but I am cutting out pork, chicken, beef, goat, elk, bison, and moose. ( I think I would be called a pescaterian????) Just trying to give you the full picture I am not likely to give up fish. Just being honest.

I also don't eat dairy due to an intolerance. I really would love some supoort or suggestions. I have joined a few veggie societies for information but if I could have some MFP friends to get both sides of the diet the changes and the weight loss. That would be awesome. Please add me if you feel you would be up willing to give me a suggestion or two along the way.

Thanx

many hardcores will tell you not to use the term vegetarian then. I call myself a "plant based" eater or "flexatarian"

My suggestion is to not eliminate ANYTHING. Instead just keep adding different things. Eventually you'll kick out the crap. I found that removing every kind of meat and dairy for just 3 weeks has made me feel heavy when eating it now. Most meat eaters never know that the feel like crap b/c it feels normal to them, but I noticed a HUGE difference in how I feel once switching. Even vegans and vegetarians can eat like crap too so watch out for processed foods.

Yeah, pescatarian(or pescetarian) is the correct term. I have been a vegetarian for six years and in december I added fish back in because I was not getting enough protein; the search feature here has been immensely helpful to me for recipes and things. Also if there is a certain vegetable you'd like to incorporate into your diet, I highly recommend pinterest! Do a search of what you want to try and you will get tons of healthy recipes!

For example, search on pinterest for eggplant, and you will get recipes for eggplant parmesan, how to make mini healthy pizzas on slices of eggplant instead of carby crust, eggplant stew, how to simply grill or roast it, the list goes on and on.

    Good luck!

I recently switched over. This has been my first week without meat. I feel great! Its much easier than you think. I do eat dairy however. If you can eat eggs or egg whites, i would definitely include that in your diet. I love a lot of the Boca brand stuff which are low in calorie and high in protein. I actually have intolerance with fish. Good luck to you! If you have any questions or want support, ask me anything!
