Hi all.

I have been on MFP for 4 weeks, love it and have made lots of new friends. I have taken time to read the forums and listen to people with experience. My diet is going well, I am swimming but the constant advice is to add weights to your exercise. So today I have bought 3 kettle balls (2.5, 5.0 and 7.5), a resistance band set(light, medium and heavy). So all the gear but no exercises, and I have never done this before

I am 206, looking to lose 50 lbs and need to tone up and strengthen pretty much everywhere. 5'8

Can anyone offer advice, support, or websites which may help me get started please?? Many thanks danni xxx

  • If you can afford it, it will absolutely be worth the money to hire a personal trainer for an hour or so to pick his/her brain about these things and show you proper technique. Or, if you have a friend who's experienced with these sorta things, you could ask them for advice. If that's not for you I would recommend getting a workout dvd that uses kettlebells and resistance bands. You could take a look on youtube, there's always plenty of exercise videos there. I quite like these:

I have books, videos that show me what to do with bands and weights. You could do a search on line "excercises with strength bands) or "excersices with weights" or excercises with kettle bells (or kettle ball)" You can also do search on " excercise" in general. or "fitness and excercise" You should come up with some great info that way. I hope this helps you :)

Tank you all I appreciate the tips x
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQIpbyQxBck - i like this guys usage of resistance bands. Scott Herman Fitness on youtube has good stuff as well. The point of resitance bands is to allow greater range of motion that dumbbells or barbells, please do not let people tell you they are not for strength training.

Kettlebells - not really a novice item and I am yet to see a book or video that really explains the nuances of the more complex routines and moves. Please do a class or get an instructor, you will benefit from correct form and good knowledge.
