Super Saturday

Awhile back I challenged myself on the first Saturday of each month to burn more calories than I had on any single day up to that point. The first one was 1800 calories.

I remember making the jump to 3000 calories one day. I was sooooo happy and proud. Couldn't believe it was possible for me to do.

An interesting thing happened. Each time I went farther than I thought was possible for me to do. As a result, what became comfortable for me also got pushed further. Last month's Super Saturday was 6000 calories. And once a week I burn through 3000 calories, and it's no big deal.

So I've started a group, cleverly called Super Saturday, for those who would like to join me in pushing themselves.

You aren't competing with me! It's only about redefining your personal limits. You don't have to get in shape to do it. It doesn't have to be a big number. If the most you've ever burned was 200 calories, then Super Saturday can be 300 calories. Take all day if you need to.

Having this day is also a good way to carve out time to work out. Friends may pressure you to do other things, but for some reason as soon as you say you are breaking a record, they suddenly become supportive!

There are no excuses! Flying overseas? Do calf raises in the isle for 30 minutes every 2 hours. Big game on TV? 10 pushups every time your team scores. Hectic schedule? Buy a couple used fitness dvd's and load 'em up, workout 5 minutes at a time. Got a funeral to attend? Commiserate with one person at a time while you walk around the chapel, 20 laps. Broken ankle? 1000 reps with a pair of 10 lb dumbbells. Your weekend with the kids? Go to the park and do 10 100 yard sprint races, or crab crawls, or potato sack races. Only have an hour? Get a day pass at the YMCA and finally go for a swim, no matter how embarassed you are to be in a swimsuit.

So if you want to push yourself farther or in ways you never thought possible, join me at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/11642-super-saturday and get ideas. Help push others that are cranking out a long Super Saturday.

The only limit is the ones we impose on ourselves!

6000 calories in 1 day that makes me tired just reading it.

That said I think this is a great idea

    One day until Super Saturday.

Michael Jordan said he would rather try and fail then never have tried at all. The slogan of XEROX PARC (the people that brought us the modern computer interface) was To increase your success rate, double your failure rate.

Don't be afraid of trying and failing! Be afraid of not trying.

I promise, whether you try and are successful or try and fail, you will come out the other side a stronger, tougher, faster, leaner person than you when you went in!

Hope to see you on SS. Join us at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/11642-super-saturday
