Is Mosley intermittent fasting - the weigh forward !

Hi everyone,

The Good News - I lost 42 lbs using myfitnesspal by tracking my reduced food intake and exercise daily.

The Bad News - When I stopped, I put the entire 42 lbs back on.

I am now using myfitnesspal again but rather than cut calories, I am eating normally 5 days a week (2000 calories) and fasting for two days (Friday and Saturday). Mosley recommends 600 calories a day on the fasting days but I am only cutting back to 1000.
I have lost 2 lb the first week and know that I will continue to lose weight this way without exercising. When I do exercise, I know that I will lose more weight quickly.

It is recommended to eat good foods on the fasting day but I have had 3 hot buttered crumpets this morning - very cold in the UK - and will have warm drinks and something else much later on. The fasting days somehow mean you don't overindulge on the following full calorie days - I have often stopped at 1800 calories on these days and have not felt hungry at all.

good luck to everyone wishing to lose the pounds - make this your year to achieve your goal or at least get started

Mosley recommends the two fast days should be non-consecutive and you are eating double the suggested calories as well. Although the calorie restriction will work for weight loss you are missing out on the potential health benefits as you are not really fasting at 1000 calories.
    Well worth reading the book.

For women Mosley recommends 500 a day, I just started on this and found the 500 limit easier than I thought it would be, my advice is bulk up on lots of vegetables and avoid calorie dense food that doesn't fill you up, also if the 500 limit feels scary why not wean yourself into it and eat less each fast day until you get to the 500.

Personally, for me as a compulsive overeater, I think it's good for me to feel proper hunger and find out that nothing bad happens to me when I haven't stuffed my face for a long period of time.

    Good luck :o)

thanks for your comment, I have now read the book - Mosley found it difficult to do two consecutive days at 500/600 calories but never said it couldn't be done - I am feeling fitter and still losing weight 17lb in 9 weeks so I am going to continue and will drop to 500 calories if I reach a plateau.

I'm going to give this Mosley scheme a try. I find his BBC television programs to be extremely informative and entertaining. I'm stuck at BMI = 25, but for personal health reasons (pre-diabetic blood sugar, and fatty liver) I need to go lower, BMI = 23 would be ideal.

It's exhausting to go through MFP and logging every day. Two days out of seven isn't so bad, plus I can standardize (packetize) what exactly I should eat on the two semi-fast days, which is even less mental effort.

I have read and researched 5:2 also. I was following it for about 8 weeks and did lose but found that I was very tired and had no energy to do my normal workouts. But what I did like was the fact that I didn't have to eat 6 meals a day to keep my metabolism going as has always been suggested to me. I actually follow the 16:8 IF plan now and eat my calories within a certain timeframe so I still get the benefit of a fast on the 5 work days. I don't know if the benefits and research I have read is stead fast as it is still in the early stages of reseach but I figure if it works for me and I have a chance of benefitting myself as I age - then why not.

    Hi Skoshness,

Off work this week so I tried two 500 cal days and have gained 0.2 lbs but I put that down to all the sitting around, full of a cold and drinking lots of hot lemon drinks. I am going back to 1000 Friday and 500 Saturday as that works best for me.
