My weight GAIN success story

I started taking medication over the summer for ADD. The medication is wonderful and has really helped me to stay focused when I need to be focused and yet it doesn't make me feel like a zombie. The one drawback is that it suppresses my appetite. I have always been thin and losing weight has never been something I wanted to do.

At first I didn’t really notice, I would get hungry and then I would eat. Things were great. I could concentrate at work and was becoming much more organized.

However… I never ate breakfast and there were many days that I didn't eat lunch. In fact one of my colleagues would fuss at me and make me eat lunch some days. I didn’t think it was a big deal.

It wasn't until I went to the doctor a few weeks ago that he told me I had lost 10lbs in a month. My BMI was fine but it I kept losing weight he was going to take me off the meds. This is NOT something I wanted to do.

Before I continue with my story I need to tell you about my boyfriend. He is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. He makes me laugh on a daily basis and loves me unconditionally. BUT he is NOT a healthy eater. He primarily eats red meat and potatoes. NO veggies and rarely any fruits. For Lent this year (A Christian season leading up to Easter and a time for reflection and fasting.) he decided to give up red meat and fried food! YAY!! He then decided to return to the gym and has started eating ONLY healthy foods! He found this site through a friend of ours and has been sticking with it! I have never been more proud of him! He has even LOST 10 lbs.

I started thinking...if he is eating healthy then I should too...so I signed up! I discovered the first day that I was eating WAY less then I should be. In fact I wasn't even getting 1000 calories a day. No wonder I was losing weight! I began searching for ways to gain weight the healthy way! I too started going to the gym and am eating a lot more protein! Natural peanut butter and almonds have become my best friends!

This site has been so helpful and I have gained 2 lbs so far. I am comfortable with this weight and want to maintain it. If I gain a little more that would be fine, especially if it’s muscle weight! 

So to those of you out there who are trying to GAIN weight or maintain your current weight, you are NOT alone!

  • That's awsome. I'm in the same boat. I was right on the line for being under weight. I would skip meals...being a student. I walked in here a couple of day's ago with a bmi of 18.6 just .1 over the line. I guesstamated my weight at being 100Ibs just to be on the safe side. I weighed my self yesterday and was 103.4Ibs so we will see what i am on saterday when i weigh my self again.
