There is no such thing as coconut oil. Coconuts produce milk. The oil thing is a total myth. It's usually High Fructose Canola oil that they try to pass off as coconut oil. In ancient times coconuts were the size of grapes and produced oil. But as far as present day, total myth.
huh? coconut definitely has oil (fat) in it that can be extracted out... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coconut_oil0 -

for the record. coconuts don't "produce" milk. coconuts have a fleshy inside, that's filled with coconut WATER. Coconut milk is made by blending and combining the flesh with the water. the oil is simply extracted from the flesh.
coconut oil is a real thing
unless you were just trolling, in which case... good for you?0 -

NO! It's real! Every year, on the first day of summer,, coconut oil oozes down our chimneys and leaves Bounty Bars for good children.0 -
I don't swear by it. But I do know that when I started going to a high fat diet consisting of coconut oil I began to finally lose bodyfat %. I think there is something to it.0

Interesting. I use it for my hair & skin... Think I'm going to try cooking with it this week. I read somewhere that there's something in it that actually makes you metabolize fat more efficiently. ( I could be wrong.) but I'm curious enough to find out0

It's really good to oil the length of hair before washing it.
My daughter is so violently allergic to coconut oil that I've never used it in cooking. Even now that she lives apart from us, I don't use it. Who knows when she might stop in and want a bite of whatever I've prepared.0 -
And it most certainly is real! A man I was talking to in Belize described how his mother made it (cooking the grated "meat" of a coconut, then letting the oil separate out). I bought some.0

I like coconut, it helps me gain weight. That's why they use it for babies, AIDs and cancer patients.0

I use coconut oil on my skin for the most part.
Coconut oil is high in calories and fat (it is an oil) but it's a healthy fat. The triglycerides are 'short', meaning they are metabolized quickly, but they are still high in energy. It's good for endurance athletes but since it's very high in calories I wouldn't say it would help you lose weight.
Coconut oil has medium chain triglycerides.0 -

The coconut oil I looked at yesterday was solid?
Do you just spoon it into the hot pan or what?
Only used olive oil and butter before, and only just starting to use any fats in my cooking.
It was very expensive and about 900 calories per 100g.
For price, LuAnna at Walmart.0 -
I recommend the book by Dr. Mary T. Newport, "Alzheimer's Disease: What if There Was a Cure." Her focus was on its benefits for memory, but she also has a great chapter on coconut oil and saturated fats0
