Snack alternatives!

Options
I usually snack on fruit as its the easiest thing to grab a banana or apple on my way out to work. My daily sugar intake however seems quite high and looking at my diary, it's all mainly coming from fruit. Anyone got any quick and easy snack alternatives to fruit?. I' know I need to ea t 5 a day but trying to cut down on my sugars. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks x

i love my spicy chickpeas, they are great. Recipe attached.. other snacks are popcorn, I use the 100 calorie bags, just enough in the bag to enjoy

    Spiced Chickpeas
I can (15.5 oz.) chickpeas (garbanzo beans), about 1 2/3 cups
1 1/2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive or canola oil
    1/2 teaspoon paprika
Dash of cayenne pepper, or to taste
    1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
    3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/2 teaspoon sea salt (optional)
    Non stick cooking spray

Preheat oven to 400. Drain, rinse and dry chickpeas on paper towels. Combine olive oil and spices in a bowl. Add chickpeas and toss until evenly coated. Spread chickpeas onto baking sheet sprayed with the non stick cooking spray. bake for 25- 30 mins until golden and crispy. shake pan every 10 mins for even crisping and to prevent sticking. Enjoy while warm
    Makes 4 1/2 cup servings, calories per serving 180 7 g fat, 5 g fiber, 6 g protein.

I also tried this with frozen green beans and it is great also, but less calories and protein

The only time my sugar is high is when I have more fruit, but I don't have a problem with that at all. Everything in fruit is good for you & I'd rather eat 200 calories from fruit than 0 from a diet soda.

My snacks are usually between 70-140 calories. Ranging from a hard boiled egg (70), to cottage cheese (80), handful of nuts (100), fruit bar (110), greek/ soy/ coconut yogurt (130), & fiber bars (140). All healthy snacks & most of them have good protein too so that helps ward off hunger.

Check out Walden Farms products. Most have no calories
Sharitaki Noodles and rice - either no calories or very little
Artic Ice Cream - 150 calories for a pint.
    Veggies are great too.

i like to eat pickles as snacks, i think there's a bit of sugar in them but not much, only about 4-5 calories per pickle, and because they're in a vinegary brine they have a bit of sodium in it so it keeps you full :-)

A bit high in sodium, but how about a high quality beef jerky? Very good protein source and not many carbs (some add more sugar than others so really seek out a good brand)

    Cottage cheese

    pickles

    boiled egg

1/8 of an avocado with a piece of meat and a lettuce leaf wrapped around it.

    Kale chips

    sunflower seeds in the shell

my opinion: just worry about sugars from processed foods, not fruit. Fruit sugars are ok unless you're diabetic.

These are all snacks in the 200-250 calorie range:

Veggies and hummus... 1/4 cup of hummus is about 140 calories (Sabra brand, anyway). I like to eat it with carrots, broccoli, red pepper, whatever I have on hand. 3 medium carrots are around 75 calories. 1 medium red pepper is about 30 calories, and around a cup of broccoli clusters (65g) is about 20 calories, so you can have a good mix of veggies and a decent amount of hummus for around 200 calories.

Cottage cheese, 1/2 cup is about 100 calories with 14g protein, I often stir in applesauce or chunks of fruit.

Kefir, 1 cup is about 140 calories, 11g protein.

1/2 c of Stonyfield farm Banilla yogurt with 1 tbsp of peanut butter stirred in, 200 calories. Or 6 oz of plain greek yogurt (fage) with a tbsp of peanut butter and a tbsp of honey, around 250 calories for ~21g protein.

I know you say you're already eating a lot of fruit, so I don't need to recommend bananas, but they are pretty delicious dipped in the above yogurt mixtures.

I would also second the roasted chickpeas. You can make them spicy/savory, or sweet, depending on what you are in the mood for.

I really love nuts drizzled with honey, but have a hard time keeping to 1/4 c of them...

You can see I love my protein >.> I like to have high protein snacks, though, because then they tend to keep me more full. I love popcorn and other snacks like that, but I get hungry a lot sooner.
