My starting weight was 188.5 in June 2012, and I felt terrible! On my 50th birthday, I decided I wanted a different life, which included losing weight and getting fit. I began my journey on my own, by watching my calories and starting to walk. I was only able to do 20-30 minutes on the treadmill at first, but have worked my way up to walking two half-marathons in December and January. I joined MFP in September, and loved the tools of tracing food and exercise, plus being able to friend several people for accountability and support.

At the end of December, I hit my goal of 130. I have been able to maintain for a month, and will continue to watch my food and exercise on the website for a long time to come. I know I'm a newbee at maintenance, but I plan to make this stick. I feel so much better, and have pride in my accomplishment. There's no magic bullet, just a lot of determination and belief in yourself. Once you establish new habits, they become easier and easier. You always hear people say "if I can do it, you can do it" but that's actually true!
