So I am a nursing student and part time Nurse Aide. Does anyone have any good exercises to strengthen my back to avoid injury. I know it is essential to use good body mechanics but definitely need to get those muscles strong too. Home or gym exercises are good. Thanks :-)

It's often a lack of core muscles that cause lower back injury so I'd suggest 4 point plank, roll outs etc

For lower back: Do you have access to a back extension chair? If not, you can also use a balance ball to do lower back extensions. Planks are good as well.

    Upper back: Bent-over dumbbell rows.

Deadlifts, barbell rows, good mornings, etc. are all excellent workouts for the back, but make sure you have good form.

^^^yup... start off easy and slow tho and have someone show you how to do them correctly whether it be conventional deadlifts or straight leg deadlifts.

I'm not gonna lie, deadlifts scare me, just because I know how bad you can hurt yourself if your form is even a little bit off.

There's more leeway than most people thing. But really, start easy and it's no problem. I do then with a bulging disc no problem.
