Ladies Question: Aunt Flo (oh my!)

I wanted to have some input or suggestions on what you all do around the time of the month when it comes to intake? I am going to get my period in the next week or so, and ever since getting off birth control, my cravings for chocolate and salty hit the roof the week before (and usually tamper off in the middle of the week of).
Do any of you stop your cravings in a certain way or have any suggestions or habits you feel would be beneficial? Last month, I feel like I screwed up a lot of hard work, lost it and some after my period was over, and then feel like I am back on self destruction.
Thank you!

Chocolate and salty cravings may both indicate mineral deficiencies. A great non medication 'treatment' for PMS and hormone balance is diet and lifestyle modification - oily fish, mineral rich foods, plenty of fibre, carb selection and portion control for stable blood sugar, 10000 steps a day and so on but for the whole month.0

My go to if the battle against my cravings gets out of control is air-popped popcorn. I measure by the cup and I always eat only within my calorie range. It sure takes the edge off and is a lot better than hitting that WHOLE chocolate cake or bag of chips with a jar of dip!0

For salt i eat a boiled egg with salt and for sweets I eat 1 dark chocolate hersheys fun size (mini) and it helps and i dont go overboard0

Nice idea! And I could probably sprinkle a little sugar on that and get that sweet and salty check on a good portion. Thank you!0

I do similar things to the ones above. I eat a lot of plain, unsalted almonds and dried apricots. The apricots have a lot of sugar, but also fiber. If, after a couple of days, I'm still craving the chocolate, I eat it, at least a little bit. I don't eat a whole snicker's bar, but a couple of Hershey kisses.
Eat enough fat, too. I like small blocks of cheese. It gives you the feel of nibbling something decadent, and it fills you up.0 -
That's an interesting argument; I'll look into it. The only thing is that before I was watching my intake, my usual is very Mediterranean style which is high in fiber, veggies, fish, etc. I'll check this out... thanks.0

Cheese! That's a good idea for the salty aspect... and a good way to keep in check with the measurement. Thank you!0

I will have 1 or 2 dark chocolate hershey kisses. I keep a bag of these around with no problem because it is not normally a huge temptation. For the salty craving, maybe try some kale chips or roasted chick peas with sea salt. I do better trying to satisfy the craving than to try to ignore it.0
