Sugar in fruit...how concerned should I be?

How concerned should I be with the amount of sugar contained in fruit? Whenever I have a fruit or two it drives up my sugar total for the day and I exceed my recommended limits. Should I not worry so much about these sugars as long as I am not eating too much refined/processed sugary snacks? Thanks!

Not in the slightest bit, unless you have some kind of reason to avoid sugar.

Not unless you have diabetes or pre-diabetes. Fruit is wonderful, otherwise :)

I would not worry about the sugar in fruit, unless you need too for medical reason. Just don't go crazy with the fruit but I personally think that the sugar on my fitness pal is low if you are eating a lot of fruit and veggies. But enjoy your fruit :flowerforyou:

That's exactly my problem! I eat a banana and there goes half my daily allowance for sugar on MFP! I've been really avoiding REAL sugar and I get pissed off when it tells me I've gone way over my "goal". I probably shouldn't let it bother me but it does :)

I had the same problem as well! I felt guilty for eating fruit because it would put be over my sugar limit, which now looking at it now, is kinda bogus. So I would suggest going to your diary settings and changing what is listed. I changed my sugar to sodium or fiber (I forget). Changing your diary settings may be the solution

I eat loads of fruit. Mainly from smoothies.

My sugar table has a conniption fit at the end of each day, but i feel full all day, know I'm eating 'good sugar' and not 'bad sugar', and as long as I'm at a Calorie deficit, what's the issue.

I limit sugar/carbs only because it causes me to have intense sugar/carb cravings. Seriously, if I eat an apple or banana I'll be baking a cake (and then eating the entire thing) within an hour. If it cause you to go insane like it does for me, then limit it. Otherwise, don't worry about it (unless you have some medical issue like diabetes).
  • I dont even bother tracking my sugar. I think the MFP sugar allowance is way too low.

I balance the natural sugars with protein and go over on both everyday. I was told balancing them is good. Also, watching your sodium is way more important. You wouldn't believe how quick that can sky rocket in a day!
  • Fructose is treated differently by your body than sugar from a candy bar. Enjoy the fruit!
