Running?

So, I saw a pin on Pinterest that was entitled "Running for Beginners." I used to love to run, well more like jog, when I was thinner. But, since I've gained weight, running makes me feel like my heart is about to burst. Anyways, this running schedule is for 12 weeks. For week 1, you fast walk for four minutes, slow walk for one, then repeat four times for a total of twenty minutes for each day of the week. Week 2, you run for one minutes, fast walk for three minutes, and then repeat five times. Then for each week your running time increases. I don't have a stopwatch, so I'm leaning more towards using my treadmill for this. If I do decide to use my treadmill, what is an acceptable running speed? I know I'm usually jogging at 4 mph.

For me, running starts around 4.5 mph. If 4 is running for you, start there. The program sounds similar to couch to 5K. Do you have a smartphone? There are lots of free apps for C25K that will signal when to walk or run.

I started C25K last March having never been a runner before. I'm now training for my first half marathon (up to 10.5 miles now).

If you use a treadmill, it's whatever is comfortable for you. For me, light jogging was 4.5

My suggestion is to pick a speed that feels comfortable, and then go a skosh slower than that. Don't worry about how fast or slow you go right now, your primary objective right now is to build endurance and get past that heart exploding feeling. Speed will come later. You got this.

I've been thinking of doing some running. I don't know why. My only exercise since being a teenager has been walking. Stairs and forty five degrees incline streets can be so much fun. My weight now is the same as it was then, so it's not like I need to run. Maybe that's why I thought of doing it. Just for the fun of it.
