Yes, another Juicing post

Please only serious answers. All joking and fad diet bashing aside, we have ADDED juicing to our diet as a way to gain more vegetables and nutrients. It's not all we drink or eat and we carefully researched what to juice and how. And, I apologize in advance for the "gross factor" of this post, but I need to know. (I also tried to search the forums but got nothing)

My question is related to the after effects of juicing on the body. My boyfriend drinks the same juice, same amount and is totally fine. 20-30 minutes after I drink the juice I'm running to restroom for a BM. I was just wondering if anyone else experienced this while juicing? If you did, did you "grow" out of it? Did you have to adjust your recipes?

Little background: historically I eat "cleaner" than him and much fewer calories. I also don't drink any sodas or consume any artificial sweeteners... Just curious since I don't want to give up a great way to get extra nutrients into my diet. Thanks in advance!

What some may not realize is that juicing may increase sugar because you're not filling yourself up with the fiber from eating it since you may be juicing several food items at once. If you have mild diarrhea already, higher sugar isn't going to help reduce it but encourage it.

Are you drinking the juice on an empty stomach first thing in the morning or after you have eaten food? When I juice I have to do at least 50% greens to limit the sugar content and I feel much better than with fruit juices.

I would guess that you need more fiber in your diet. I am not suggesting you stop juicing. Do that. I would say add some Greek yogurt and/or kefir to your diet, and maybe do fruit smoothies. Add beans and lentils to your diet, and other good fibrous foods such as wild rice. The extra fiver and the probiotics should help to regulate your movements for sure, and it will just be an added goodness to your calorie intake. I have no idea how you are eating besides due to not seeing your diary. It is closed.

It is 75% vegetable juice. We don't make the mistake of doing all fruits. If was all apple, I'd understand the urge. We usually enjoy a glass with or after a healthy dinner. I also drink a lot more water than him on a daily basis. Thank you for your advice. I see my Dr onTuesday and will bring the issue up with him since my medications could be playing a role. I was just hoping it would be something from adjusting to the extra nutrients. I'll try the yogurt too.

And my diary is closed because I've sadly encountered way too many judgmental people. Lol

Hi I add juice to my diet every day.According to my research(ancestors knew ayurveda )- it has to do with the body type.
My husband is a Pitta and usually he runs to the bathroom in 30 mins like you, where as im a kapha-i do fine with it.
the kaphas do well with bitter and astringent juices(beetroot, celery, kale etc). The pittas do well with cooling veggies like cucumber, melons etc.

maybe try adding more a cucumber in your juices.

Well, vitamin B5 "overdose" induces the symptoms you are talking about. That, plus the added fiber of that inevitably gets through the juicer, and you could potentially get to a very irritable bowel. if you are eating solid foods, that'll help, but if you are downing nonstop portions of this juice, chances are you will get some gastric distress.

no worries though as the body is very adaptive. I would think it should clear up within a week or two..

btw. i love juicing. the stuff is pure gold in terms of micronutrients.

maybe you were always consuming less water or liquids than him and his body is already used to that amount of water doing it's thing, but you are having help in moving things along now that you are getting more liquids. it's a good thing if that's the case and you will get used to the idea of going more regularly as you're supposed to if that's the case.

(but seriously, what is UP with all the potty topics today?)

Another thing, from my experience. If I drink 5 8oz glasses of juice, it hydrated me so well it was insane. I used to do that. I would wake up hydrated even.

Thanks Konerusp, I'll try the more cucumber.

Again, it's something we added to our diet. We still eat solid foods for 3-4 meals a day and I'm only having one glass of the juice. I'm hoping I'll adapt! LOL

Actually I consume way MORE liquids than he does. I drink probably 10-12 glasses of water a day. (Don't start on the overhydration topics either. It's under Dr supervision and the extra water is required for a medical condition I have)

Again, thank you for the serious advice, sorry about another potty topic, and I'm also checking with my Dr tomorrow.

So I talked to my Dr. He's a big fan of the juicing to fit in your veggie servings. It's easier and tastier. Honestly, now I've been juicing longer I feel great. He recommended watering the juice down just a bit and drinking it two glasses at a time. Turns out, it works! The juice was just too concentrated for my body to absorb so it went right through before. Now giving it the water to pull out helps it process the vegetable juice better. Works for me so yay!!
