Hi all,
I am looking for some recommendations here. I walk into the health food stores and I am so confused. Taste is very important to me so I am overwhelmed by the large jars I see in these shops. Which one are you taking and what would you recommend for a beginner. Preferably something that also comes in a smaller size jar pls.

A lot of the various protein powders have small sample sizes you can try--ask the person at the counter about that. I highly recommend doing so before investing in a big canister of anything.
EDITED TO ADD: When I use whey powder, I like Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey. I get the chocolate flavour. I really try to get protein from whole foods as opposed to powders, but I do keep that on hand for those odd times when I'm either out of time or real food.0 -
I've just started with Promax strawberry, you need to ignore the 200ml of water per scoop. Change it to about 100-125ml of water with a full scoop of powder and it actually tastes pretty good but better with milk. Chocolate might be a better flavour as replicating strawberry is pretty tough.
Most reviews on promax are good and I believe they do smaller tubs. Pricey but tends to be on offer quite often.0 -
Agree with the sample suggestion. I just bought a 2.5kg chocolate smooth from my protein. Tried mixing with water, soy milk and then total 0% yoghurt(which was the best frozen a little). I have come to the conclusion that I do not like them but that's just me. I'll stick to food sources from now on as it's not like I need the fast protein hit compared to some people.0

You could always ask for sample packs. ON Gold Standard Whey is good, Gaspary MyoFusion, MTS Whey, Syntha-6, Dymatize Iso 100 to name a few off the top of my head.0

i opt for the special k protein drinks instead because of this problem. they taste better and more convenient for me.0

I like the Amplified Wheybolic Extreme from GNC. High protein per calorie ratio. Tastes great. Mixing half a scoop vanilla with 1.5 scoop chocolate in .5 cup water/.5 cup almond milk is phenomenal.0

Thanks for the responses so far....keep them coming. There are some great suggestions here. I hope I will be able to find some of the ones suggested here in the UK. I just want to give it a try to see if I like it and if it is something I can incorporate in my diet. I guess if I don't like them I will have to rely on food as some of you have also suggested.0

+2 on this. ON is the best I have had so far. I cannot stand whey at all - chocolate is bearable to me, I mix it with milk (chocolate milk whey! = semi yum) and a half banana - if you don't like the taste i recommend this or blending it with fruits/ etc.0 -
I would like to know the answer to this too (also in the UK)0

I'm currently using Body Supreme strawberry whey powder, got it from Asda. I have it with soya milk and I found it tastes nicer if you blend it with some Total 0% Greek yogurt. I tried the chocolate Maximuscle but it wasn't for me, but maybe if I'd tried the less water as suggested by a previous posted it might have been nicer :flowerforyou:0

I buy all my whey online, it's much cheaper than in the shops and most sites offer 99p trial sachets so you can sample flavours before commiting to a larger order. I have used www.myprotein.com and www.bulkpowders.co.uk. Both offer speedy courier delivery and a wide range of flavours. If you're just looking for something to top up your protein intake a simple whey protein is fine.
I usually just order 5kg of unflavoured whey and add my own flavourings as needed as it's cheaper.0
