Is this normal?

Okay, so I started working on losing weight back in Sept-Oct (kinda shaky on exact start since business trips, vacation, etc. made sticking to any true calorie-counting low on the priority list).

The first two months, my weight loss was pretty steady. I started to add weight-lifting to my regimine in late November, prior to that was only focusing on watching what I was eating and cardio. Well, over the last two months, while I continue to lose weight, I seem to be doing it more in a way that has me confused, and am just wondering if this is normal......maybe it has something to do with the weight lifting?

I'll go for say 2-3 weeks showing no weight loss, maybe a pound or so. Of course, during this time, THAT is when I seem to see the most change in my physical appearance and in the way my clothes are fitting, but virtually no results on the scale nonetheless. But then, and this has been the case 3 times now, I'll suddenly drop 5-6 lbs over the course of a week or so (and I make sure I show the same weight 3 straight days before I officially say that I am "X-Pounds") , then steady out again for a couple of weeks. I'm not really concerned as much as I am curious. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

This last time, I got away from doing the MFP daily calorie and workout postings/checking. I pretty much know now, after a couple of months of daily tracking, what I'm taking in and what I need for food and have a rough idea of how many calories I'm burning as I workout. After a few weeks stuck at the last weight, I decided to take everybody's advice and not pay so much attention to that and even cheated a bit from time to time (though not much) on what I was eating, etc. Suddenly, bammo, I drop another 6 lbs.

(By the way, that makes it 39 lbs now....only about 20 lbs from my goal weight).

I'm packing in the protein, no more junk food (except for the occasional sneak), have cut WAY back on the beers and soda, and am making sure to have more well-rounded meals as a whole.

Anybody have similar weight loss patterns, or know if this is a sign of doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for any input. I'm gonna post this on another of the boards as well as I'm not sure which board to post this on exactly.

I'd say it's fairly normal. I seem to go for a few weeks and not lose anything - less than a pound a week, but then I'll lose 2-3 pounds in a week.

I keep having to remind myself that weight loss, like most things in life, aren't totally linear.
