I have the opportunity to trade my nice recumbent stationary bike for a very nice treadmill. My bike is in my living room where I can watch TV, serf the net, etc. The treadmill would have to go in my basement but it has its own TV and we should be able to hook it up to our dish system. As you can tell by my name, I like running and I live in NE Wisconsin where winter isn't very condusive for that activity. I can feel my endurance declining since I can't get out for decent runs. Both have their pros and cons, so I'm not really sure what to do. I'm concerned that having the treadmill in the basement will make it less attractive to me while it's SO easy to just hop on the bike in the evenings while the hubby and I catch up on our DVR'd shows....

So...would you do it??

I will give another opinion here, if you don't mind.

What is your overall goal? If you want to be a runner, I would trade. Timing, climate, your availability, etc.

When I try to focus on anything else during a workout (other than having music on) I don't work nearly as hard. If I were you, I would make the trade, make your workout time JUST for your workout, and schedule it in.

What a neat opportunity for you! But whatever you decide, enjoy!

I'd make the trade just based on the fact that I know I can burn twice as many calories running in the same length of time and that running will increase my cardio endurance way more than riding a bike. I like to get the most bang for my buck when it comes to time spent.
