Hi all, ive been using this site for about 2 weeks now, and loving it! So far I have lost 7lb which i am very pleased with!

Im on quite alot of calories - 1860 - I think maybe because of my starting weight its recommended that I have this much? anyway, im thinking about reducing my calories to 1610 (well I actioned this today) but now i am getting to the end of the day i keep thinking about those other 200 calories i have removed!

So my question to you is, how long did you wait before you reduced your calorie goal, and how much did you reduce it by? I dont want to start being hungry by reducing it too quickly...

any advise would be very welcome! Thanks

Ally

I've lost 42 lbs and I haven't reduced it yet. It's still working, why rock the boat?

Why would you change what is working? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Eat the calories it gives you. Record your weight in the check-in section. Every five pounds you lose it will readjust your calories for you and you won't have to do anything. There's no reason to make it lower on your own.

I try to average around 1500 and that works for me most of the time. Sometimes I'm lower and sometimes I'm much higher and have a cheat day.

You need a minimum of 1200 a day and if you exercise you need to eat back a portion of your extra calories burned. I don't see any problem lowering your calories but you should make sure that you don't lower it to the extent that you aren't getting enough food.

I don't see 1610 as being too low unless you are doing a lot of moving during the day.

    Thanks guys!

What i forgot to mention is that I have it set in my profile as the recommended lose 1lb a week, which has given me the 1800 calories, and it is when i changed it to 1.5 a week that it reduced to 1600 its just coz i am impatient and im getting married in the year and have a lot of weight to lose!

As you lose weight, it'll prompt a reduction - it'll actually ask you first if you want to reduce the calories. I'd stick with the recommended calories and let MFP guide you through the calorie reductions.
