Excercising = eating junk?

I have been not excercising and only watching my calories (1700). I started doing 30 Day Shred last week and it seems like i am wanting nothing but salty junk stuff. Is this a stage to just get through or is this just me? Has nothing to do with TOM.

I am going to guess your body is sweating during 30DS and your craving for salty food is to replenish the salt you have sweat out.
A good alternative to junk food would be edamame beans with a sprinkle of salt (in place of chips)0 -
I have found that the harder i work out..the more ravenous i get. For me, I'd rather exercise to a point where my appetite stays in check. that's just me. I also heard a diet researcher on dr. oz.. say he finds exercise helps people keep weight off..but for most dieting women it makes them eat more because they are more hungry from the work out. I think it is true.
what i do is eat my lunch right after i work out so i feed the hungry monster inside of me..without blowing my calories for the day. I find it balances out that way.
there are also some 30 day shredders out there who might be able to help you out..0 -
I've had susses with prelogging treats. Yes this is REALLY common actually your body needs extra fuel after exercise and may be craving carbs, cardio tends to do that
If I really want chips or pizza or french fries or something I perlog my entire day of foods with the "Cheat" food to figure out how many calories I need to burn to keep it in my macro's and get me out of the red then I go to the gym and burn that many calories. So if we my cheat meal or snack or whatever I go over by 400 calories I'll burn 400 calories, sometimes a LITTLE more to account for inaccuracy with my HRM but not much, I find it helps to prelog because then I can time my meals/treats and work outs to help meet my nutritional needs/ hunger while also staying in my goals0 -

Okay enough already I gotta ask...WHO IS TOM? This guy is everywhere! What is it, who is it, help?
oh and for crunchy and salty, i used to get orange bell peppers peel and devein them, then break them into different sized chunks, wash and dry them very well them sprinkle them with salt. these would be my "chips" they have plenty of curves and hold dips very well.0 -

LOVE this idea! Thanks so much0 -
Maybe a low cal sports drink to replenish any salts/minerals that you sweat out?
When I'm craving something unhealthy I always check the following website, it tells you which vitamins/minerals your body is craving and offers healthy ideas to get them

^ This. Though I'm no good at avoid chips, so I just go for a small helping of baked Lays.0 -

TOM = PMS0 -
I often crave salty foods and rather than lick the salt off pretzels (which I've been known to do lol) I'll eat radishes, sliced and sprinkled with salt... gets the craving out without the extra junk, but I have very low sodium in my normal day to day diet so I dont feel bad about adding some extra0

Interesting... I changed some of my workouts last week because it was crazy stupid cold outside, and unadvisable to go for a run or walk... so I did some workout videos. I was hungry all week, wanting things like chips. I assumed it was because it was so cold out, and my body wanted to hibernate with large amounts of carbs (my normal reaction to January weather in Canada). Maybe it was little of both - the new exercise and the cold...0

This is why MFP is set up so you eat yor exercise calories back... Then you won't be so hungry!0 -
I find just the opposite. I don't want to waste my hard work on crappy fuel. I guess it just depends on how you see food.0

For at least the last 2 weeks you've been at or over your sodium. Maybe /that/ is causing the cravings, and not the exercise? Try cutting back your sodium in general, keeping it under 2000mg/day and see how it goes.0

/\/\/\/\/\ THIS. I find myself really hungry after working out as well (I usually work out in the evenings), but I also prelog pretty much everything. I know before I go work out how many calories I have for after my workout. I found some granola (look in my diary for Sunday 1/27) that satisfies my want for chocolate and crunchy/salty stuff but isn't bad for me. I also find that drinking lots and lots of water during/after my workout sometimes satisfies my munchies.0 -
Thanks all! I guess its part mental too because I am not really hungry....but thinking that "Hey you just excercised, go have a kit kat" You know what i mean?0
