Body Pump or lift on my own?

I recently started Body Pump at my gym again, but to be honest I feel like I am not seeing the changes I want to. Granted..I have only went 3 times a week for 3 weeks, but something feels "off".

I almost feel like I need to go back to lifting on my own, so I can focus more on lifting heavier weights. I am not sure what the answer is...or what exactly my question even is haha. I go to body pump 3 times a week, but I haven't been lifting on my own at all. Should I mix it up? Maybe do body pump one time a week, and lift on my own 2 times a week? I want to lose weight, but more so I want to get fit. I would rather drop inches than pounds, if that makes sense. I need some opinions!!! :)

Should I give Body Pump some more time? Or maybe just go back to lifting on my own. I can always add lifting on my own after Body Pump too, but I really dont want to spend 2.5 hours in the gym! Does anyone have a situation similar to this?

  • Bodypump is gay. Do Stronglifts 5x5 or Starting Strength with cardio added in on your days off. You'll get results very steadily.

Bodypump is too high rep and low weight to see the results you want in my opinion. I would start training with strong lifts 5x5 or New rules of weightlifting for women. Neither of which take very long in the gym but you will see results

Stick with the body pump and mix in extra cardio.if you want to focus on fit and losing weight. You won't lose many inches or weight doing 5x5's alone with no cardio or diet. Add a little more weight in your body pump class if you aren't getting your heart rate up high enough. If you want to get fit and stronger at the same time the body pump class is great. If strength is your goal .........the 5x5's are a good direction to go. The group classes can help keep you motivated working out with other people you will get to know as well.

And yes, you can lose weight and inches doing Strong Lifts, or New Rules. Body Pump is basically cardio with weights (muscle endurance). The goal of strength training while on a diet is to minimize muscle loss. Strength programs (NOT muscle endurance) have been shown to be most effective at that.

I like BodyPump but more because I like group classes. I consider it more cardio then anything else. I think you will see more of the results you're looking for lifting heavy on your own

Warning, no answer given, just opinion. I do prefer body pump because it pushes me to complete the reps (mostly through fear of looking like a wimp) I found when I did the weights on my own I would only push myself so far and think "ow this hurts, I'm stopping" so it does depend on your own drive really. Plus i had no structure when i did it myself, you know how they do slow counts and singles etc. i tried to do it to my own music but im pretty sure i wasnt doing enough reps to make a difference, which is whyni went back. You could always try doing it on your own and if you feel that you aren't pushing yourself hard enough or you don't enjoyit then just go back to body pump. Personally I think I would die if I went to body pump three times a week, but I have only just gone back so it's still quite painful, maybe your weights aren't high enough? Hope this was useful, good luck sweet.
