Help with Calories & Weight Training!!

I'm trying something new for the week--PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!! I had my setting at "lose 2 pounds per week" and i was eating around 1200 calories a day--while I was burning 6-800 calories per workout.
I thought it would mean that I would lose 3-4 pounds per week then, because I was burning off more calories. Well, I wasn't losing much if anything . . . I'm wondering if my body was storing my fat maybe?? I was doing mostly cardio + 30 Day Shred.
This week, I changed my calories to "lose 1 pounds per week" which for me is around 1700 per day (so 500 a day more) and I'm going to eat more protein and start lifting weights, my husband told me that I won't bulk up I'm going to shred weight. I'm going to do 30-40 minutes of cardio (so for me tha tmeans a burn of 400-500 calories when I jog) and then an additional 30-45 minutes of strength training to improve my metabolism. So I'll still be burning 600-900 calories/day but I'll be eating more--so maybe I'll end up with 2 pound per week weight loss??
THOUGHTS PLEASE!!!!!! 1 more question for you-- "1, 1.5 or 2 pounds per week"????
