Stitch in Shoulder?

Hi All,

This past week, I have found that when power walking I get what feels like a stitch just below my collar bone, and also below my ribs on the right hand side. I do wear a good sports bra, but I am wondering if it could be caused by pressure from my bra?

Other exercises Don't give me this issue, and I do HIIT classes and PT sessions that are far harder than a powerwalk and I'm fine. My Fitness level is better than ever but this stitch like feeling is new to me during the walks.

Can you get stitches in your shoulder? If so, how can I prevent them?

Thank you!

I often get this when I run...no idea why though!
  • It's just another place where you can get a stitch. In fact if i'm gong to get a stitch, i'll get it here most of the time. You'll notice you'll get them less as you get fitter :D

I get a pain in my shoulder when I power walk too but not with any other exercise. Not sure why either.

Ah good - I am glad it's not just me that gets it only when power walking...I always thought stitches were just in my stomach! We learn something new every day.

    Thank you all!

    Hey chickee :-)

I get stitch under my rib cage too, but not in my shoulder - I googled it and there are several theories about what causes it, but the advice for stopping/preventing it all seemed to be the same - breath more deeply. I've been concentrating on breathing more deeply now and that's really done the trick!!

One suggestion for the shoulder stitch was that there is a nerve connection between the nerve in the shoulder and the peritetiumphanoophanackie (okay, not a real word, but it's that bit where you get stitch in your side :-P) so presume breathing more deeply will help with this too.

Bahahaha I tried to say that! Love it! I've been doing some seroosu heavy breathing in most situations and it does work - I must just get complacent on the treadmill but shall certainly pay more attention.

    Thank you for Googling! :flowerforyou:

    You're welcome!

PS - editing of previous post was because I needed to looked up correct spelling of peritetiumphanoophanackie.
