Hi
I am trying to eat clean - had the last my breakfast bars today and will be back on oats tomorrow, I am trying to snack only on fruit but my goodness it's high in calories.. It would be lower for me to have a low fat packet of crisps.
I know I know but they wouldn't be as good for me. I need to switch off thinking it's all about the calories.....

It is all about calories. One small package of crisps might be less than an apple but I would bet you could eat far more crisps in a singe sitting than fruit. Noone gets fat eating just fruit!0

Can you mix in veggies too? They tend to be lower? For every fruit have a veggy?0

I know I am having a bad day in work and the fruit just isn't hitting the spot if you know what I mean,, going to get out of the office for some fresh air before I attack the vending machine.0

What kind of fruit are you eating? Yes, some fruit is very high in sugar and calories. I stick to berries and plumbs, very low in calories. For a 200 cal snackl, I eat 300g cottage cheese with a hand full of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. I never go near bananas, mangoes, grapes, pineapple because they do stall my fat reduction.0

Great idea, cut up a few peppers, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and carrots. You can then have a very high volume of food, high nutrition value with very little calories and sugar.
Get away from the crisps, don't use your stomach as a rubbish bin!0 -
I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that fruits are a whole lot better than chips or whatever.I don't think that calories are always just calories, because when eating chips, you enter a lot of fat and processed sugar, when in fruits there is just fructose that is not nearly as bad as processed sugar.
However, try to stick to citrus fruits, they are the best, they can help a lot with weight loss. Also, try eating more vegetables, they are the best kind of food you can eat!Except for potatoes of course, they are the worst.0 -
All fruits are not the same. Bananas tend to be the highest (about 1 calorie per gram of nana, as there's so much variety in size). And I nearly died when I saw the calories and sugars in a sharon fruit!
Try experiementing with other fruits - have a look in the database for nutritional info. Berries are a good choice - raspberries blueberries, strawberries etc0 -
Nobody ever got fat from eating too much fruit, crisps/chips on the other hand.....
I've been eating 5 or 6 pieces of fruit a day, every day, since I started this back in March last year and it hasn't harmed my weight loss.0 -
I try to limit the fruit I have, so maybe just an apple a day. I like melon too. I like to have chopped up cucumber or raw carrot as a snack.
Crisps aren't a good snack! If you want something like that, have a rice cake instead.0 -

I don't eat pineapple, because it's expensive in my country to eat it often,so I don't have any experience with it when it comes to weight loss, but I've read quite a few times that it's really good if you want to lose weight, that it actually helps you do it.
I don't know...0 -
Yep... agree with everyone here! Some fruits are way higher in calories (bananas, grapes...), so definitely go for the berries. They're also full of fiber so will help keep you full longer. I snack on apples as well. I buy Gala's... and a medium sized one is only 80 calories and packs 5g of fiber. Perfect snack!0

Ask yourself if you're really hungry. If you are, the fruit will fill you up, while the crisps might just lead to more crisps....at least that's what would happen to me! I agree that the calories in fruit can be quite startling, especially if you measure by the weight, which seems the most accurate way, but think of all the good stuff in there!0

Worth remembering that protein is more likely to keep you full for longer than carbs, so a protein-based snack might be better than fruit (or a bit of protein with your fruit - some cottage cheese with chopped apple, for example).
Another favourite of mine is banana icecream. If I eat a banana it's gone in five minutes but I take my time more over icecream and enjoy it.
Just peel and chop up a banana, put it in the freezer for few hours. Then put in food processor and blend. At first it will go grainy but if you are patient it will eventually turn into the most amazing soft-whip icecream. To tackle a sugar craving you can also add a spoon of cocoa powder. Depending on the size of your banana it only comes in at 100-150 calories. If you have some calories spare and want to add a bit of protein then include some sugar-free peanut butter too.0 -
I don't snack on fruit on its own because it makes my blood sugar level crash an hour later and I end up eating more. I always include protein in my snacks (a slice of ham, a hard-boiled egg...)0

If I eat a medium apple for 93 calories as a snack it will fill me up for far longer than a 100 calorie snack pack of anything, provide me with some nutrition and fiber.0
