Weight gain????

Has anyone else experienced a weight gain at the beginning of a workout program?? I started Power 90 (in hopes of moving on to P90x after 90 days) on Jan. 11th. I have stayed with 100 calories of goal (except one day...damn football games!).
I am on day 19 day and have NOT missed a workout. Today I get on the scale and I have gained 3lbs since starting
I am not going to stop because I have made this committment however it can be discouraging.
Just wondering if any successful Power 90 or P90x'ers have had the same thing happen. Need a boost of encouragement!

Happened to me had to wait till the end of month two to actually see pounds fall off though I did see other changes.0 -
Yes, this is very typical. When you start a new workout program or increase the intensity of an existing program, your muscles experience damage (which is why you're sore aka DOMS) and part of the healing process is to retain water and glycogen within those damaged tissues. Think of it this way - when you sprain your ankle it swells - this is the same physical reaction, just not as obvous because it's spread out over a larger area. These reactions will lessen as your body heals and adapts to the new program.
Could be other water retention related things as well. How's your sodium intake? Where are you at in your monthly cycle? Are you drinking plenty of water to offset?
P.S. The other response reminded me. Make sure you take body measurements (and pay attention to how your clothes are fitting) as you may be losing inches even if the scale doesn't show a loss.
P.P.S. Also make sure you're fueling your body properly throughout this process. With the small amount of weight you have to lose, you shouldn't expect more than 1/2 to 1 pound per week loss.0 -
Have you been taking measurements? Do you notice a difference with your body?
I am on week two of Insanity and I have also gained, but I am not worried. I follow the exercises exactly how I am supposed to and eat properly. My body already looks different so I am sure it will work out in the end. GL0 -
thanks for the input!!
I did take measurments but I was going to wait until the 30 day mark to re-take (Feb 9th) I have been working on increasing the water intake I usually end up around 5 8oz's so need to increase there. I will start to pay more attention to the sodium.
I have notice some suttle changes to my body, I guess I was just take back by the weight gain...not so much if I had not lost but the gaining surprised me.0
