Who/why lock thread?

I was enjoying a thread with my coffee, posted some childhood thoughts successfully, then tried again with another comment and the thread was locked.
In the space of 3 mins. Why? How? Did I do something?
Please tell me if it was my fault.
Sorry if it was.

It hit the 500 post max if it's the "I remember that" thread.

This is MFP. Moderators do not exercise consistency in their locking of threads here.

i personally think staff does a great job considering they are unpaid volunteers...

I'm glad you think so; however, they have had better moderators (who were also unpaid volunteers...)in the past who were consistent with the rules, strikes, and locking of threads.

ETA: and this thread technically violates the Airing of grievances rule... Wonder how long before the lock?

Technically she didn't know. She wasn't mad at the mods for locking a thread, she didn't know where it went. But yes, it will be locked.

The post about the mods' competency, however, is a blatant violation of airing grievances.

Thanks for the answer, ie locks after 500 posts. I just hit unlucky i suppose.

    And I wasn't complaining, just curious/worried that I was unwittingly rule-breaking.

And all the volunteers who do this are great, in my opinion.
