How can eating more lead to weight loss?

When I joined MFP at the beginning of the year, I (like most others who use MFP for the first time) lived by the goals and limits that were automatically set for me according to my height, weight and activity levels. MFP set me a daily calorie goal of 1200 which I found quite easy to stay under since I tend to eat unprocessed foods. After participating in a couple of forums, I was advised to increase my daily calorie intake.
Now that I understand things like BMR and TDEE, I appreciate that 1200 calories per day is too low and slows down your metabolism. I have now limited myself to 1430 calories per day and I am enjoying steady weight loss week on week.
Thanks to all of the MFP members who opened my eyes!
