So, the kit in the gym and the info on here on calorie burn tend to be quite different- the info on here often says higher burn than the bike or treadmill or whatever. I was going to get a heart rate monitor but after some research have been told they are basically no good as heart beat isn't easy to convert to calorie burn and your average HRM about 15% overestimates. Aaargh!!!!!!

Any ideas which numbers to go on? I usually don't eat back all of exercise calories but try to get as close as poss to avoid sticking etc. I'm just getting back to the gym after injury and I don't want to end up messing myself up if I'm aiming for the wrong total.

Be conservative and log the lower number. Stick with that for one month before making further adjustments. If you plateu and weight loss stops for an extended period of time (3+ weeks), then increase your calories by logging the higher number.
