Caffeine?

I've managed to cut out diet soda from my diet, but I'm finding myself crashing on just water. I've been pouring Mio Energy into almost every glass of water I'm drinking. If doing so keeps me from drinking diet soda, is it worth it? What are your views on caffeine while on a diet, and how much do you consume daily?

I drink 4-6 cups of coffee daily. The chemical caffeine isn't going to do anything good or bad to your weight loss goals, so I wouldn't be concerned.0
-
I will not give an exact number of mg's per day, we'll say a lot.0
-
Haha. Well, maybe I shouldn't laugh. I just looked at my bottle of MiO, and each serving has 60mg of caffeine. I squirt in about double the amount I should in a tall glass of water, and I drink about 3 glasses a day. So, I'm getting on average of about 360mg of caffeine a day.0

yeah that wont hurt you, I am currently working on a Mio Green thunder.0

As long as you are drinking the water to counter the amount of caffiene, it should be fine. I couldn't get through the day without it!0

Don't worry about the diuretic affects of caffeine. If you do some research, you'll find the caffeine is so minimal that it CAN'T have an affect on the water it is in. If your urine is pale yellow and not dark orange, you are fine.
Good luck!
BTW...I have been drinking a pot of coffee almost everyday for over 40 years. No adverse affects.0 -
Why are you cutting out diet soda if you are in turn drinking Mio? Isn't that also an artificial sweetener with flavor that's mixed with water, just like diet soda?0

I would totally agree as I would have died of dehydration long ago if it were true.0 -
You can reverse the dehydration easily enough surely? I find black coffee really helps with digestion and post-food slumps.0

I've been addicted to diet soda for years... at some points I would easily go through a 2 liter a day. I feel like nearly anything would be healthier than drinking diet coke. It has many more harmful ingredients.0 -
Honestly, if the ingredients in diet soda are why you're trying to cut it out, Mio's not much better. Look at the ingredients:
Water, Citric Acid, Propylene Glycol, Malic Acid, Contains Less than 2% of Natural Flavor, Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium (Sweeteners), Potassium Citrate, Red 40, Blue 1, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative).
Lotsa fake sweeteners and color additives, yknow? But hey, I totally get that it's a sliding scale of what's "less healthy" for you, so if that helps you drink more water and steps you down from the sodas, go for it. If you can, though, maybe consider switching over to real teas.0 -
I have a heart condition and am not supposed to eat any chocolate (which has a cousin of caffeine), drink energy drinks, have any teas unless they are not caffeinated (and decaf =/= noncaf), and no coffee decaf or not. I have lived this way for 6 years now. I mess up every now and again, but for the most part it's not super hard to live without it. It still sucks when I'm tired because I just have to sleep.
I will say this, I need at least 2 extra hours of sleep a night now that I can't have caffeine.
May I recommend something like La Croix? No sweetners, calories, salt etc but you still get a hint of flavor and that carbonated taste. I like the coconut one myself.0 -
I drink about 4 strong coffees a day - I put 2 teaspoons of coffee powder in my mug. So 8 coffees really lol. My personal trainer thinks I should cut down, he says too much caffeine isn't good for weight loss. Hmmm. Might consider switching to decaff.0

Didn't read the other comments, so I apologize if this is repetitive. I've never been a coffee drinker (I think it's nasty) but used to love my energy drinks and diet mountain dews! However, now I just have a cup of green tea in the morning, and it gets the job done.0

I've drank 3 or 4 cups of coffee a day for years. It didn't slow me down while I lost my weight. I don't really have any solid "drink this instead of soda" recommendations, since I get my caffeine from coffee... but hey, good luck.
You could cold brew some herbal teas. My wife is a big fan of the raspberry zinger with fresh lemon. Makes it a little easier to get some caffeine with some flavor, and without all of the extra garbage from soda. No real fix for the carbonation though.0 -
I quit for 3 weeks and never got out of the lethargic withdrawal stage, so I came crawling back. But:
I did a ton of research and it seems the majority of the detrimental effects of caffeine are actually the carrier (coffee, 5 hour energy, etc..) and not caffeine itself. So I have been using mainly caffeine pills instead, but still sip coffee some because I love it so much.
Moderate caffeine usage is linked to great many benefits, and few negatives (to those who are not extremely sensitive). I use it synergystically with various supplements like theanine, nuvigil, artichoke extract and it is impossible to put into words how much it has improved my life!0 -
"synergystically" - Love it. My word of the day.0

You're right - it really isn't much better. I'm going to slowly start replacing MiO with cold teas, with Splenda of course.0 -
I had been a coffee/ coke drinker for 40 years , about 6 cups+ a day, I gave up over 3 months ago
and its the best thing I could have done.
Caffeine affects all your body, in more ways than you see, it is a powerful drug,
I now feel better than I have in years and my body is returning to its normal state.
I have more energy and its consistent,
I can control what I eat with ease, and I feel great.
I remember in my far distant past hating nicotine because of how it controls you, and I feel the same way about caffeine.
I believe these are two drugs that are not meant to be in our system.
My advice, give caffeine the boot,
Cheers.0 -
I use Lemon and Lime in my water. I drink green tea every morning with honey to sweeten it and that is my caffeine. I also will have 1 diet soda a day, because I am a soda lover! I try to drink a big glass of water first, then switch to a cup of green tea, then a big glass of water then a diet soda. It works for me, but I get sometimes just water isn't enough and I need the boost!0

5 to 10 cups of coffee per day. It hasn't slowed down my weight loss at all.0
-
I know I'm the odd duck out here, but I'd rather just have real sugar (organic, unbleached) than some type of artificial sweetener. I'm just honest with myself about how much of it I'm putting in my coffee or tea and account for it. There is too much back & forth about which artificial sweetener is "safe" or "better". =/ Screw it. Give me sugar. I also have found a lot of studies linking flare ups with my digestive disease with artificial sweeteners.0

Try to wean yourself off from sweeteners...splenda and all others. As previous poster said, if you must sweeten your drinks, really a teaspoon or 2 of sugar or honey will NOT damage your day. As for caffeine, I love it and drink it everyday. If you are crashing without your Diet soda fix, drink some coffee or green tea.0
