Some people just don't get it....

So annoying!
A co-worker of mine knows I eat healthy and have been trying to lose weight. She always has something to say about how I'm doing it wrong because of how much I eat! Never understanding the fact that you HAVE to EAT in order to LOSE WEIGHT!
She saw me eat my lunch today..always asking me when I'm bringing her a lunch b/c mine always look so good.
( it was a spinach salad w/ 2oz grilled chicken, veggies, 1/4 cup black beans, and blue cheese / greek yogurt dressing I made = about 250cal)
Then she asked what I had for breakfast - 1/2 cup egg beaters w/ spinach, peppers, onions and a mini whole wheat bagel w/ avocado - around 250cal
Then she said Oh! Well you shouldn't have eaten lunch! You already ate too much today!
....after I just watched her slam down a huge cheese and meatball sub and a bottle of coke.
she only eats 'once a day'
(shes very overweight btw)

I just hate how people look at ME funny b/c I try to eat right like somethings wrong w me!

I had an apple for a snack between breakfast and lunch btw...what a binger!

Who else experiences this?

People are just ignorant, give it time and when her diet fails I doubt she will say a word to you especially when you have obvious results.

Yup. And then the "don't get toooo skinny, you're wasting away!" comments will start.

You are confident that you are eating healthy, screw the naysayers.
  • The dreaded breakroom ummm hmmm daily comments about what I am eating?!?!? Maybe I should be proud that my lunch is everyones entertainment : ) Then the really funny comments oh I can tell your losing weight how much do you exercise then "Oh no that's too much!" and on and on about my food exercise etc...well I thought you just said you noticied I lost weight right?!?!?! People are funny...well I guess they are my entertainment.

I work the swing shift and have a 3 hour overlap with the morning shift. The women I work with always has junk food and drinks pop like its water. So yesterday I ate a snack and she then asks me how I expect to lose weight if all I do is eat every 2-4 hours. I told her Ive lost 90lbs doing it this way, I think I got it figured out by now lol! I was like all you eat is junk food everyday why would I take diet advise from you?

    Like really?!

I left her speechless, somehow I dont think she will be commenting on my eating from now on :)!

All the time, even on this site. Actually here most frequently.

Keep doing what you're doing. Results speak for themselves. And those who don't have results always seem to have excuses.. but still want to tell you you're wrong.

If her coworker is anything like one of my coworkers, it wouldn't.
    It really, really wouldn't.

You told her you ate 250 calories for breakfast and she thought that was a reason to skip lunch? That's not a very big breakfast. It sounds like she has a crazy idea of what is required for weight loss.

Honestly, I found correcting people and explaning to them how it really works ended those kinds of comments/questions. Mom and Hubs both used to ask me "is that on your diet?" or "should you be eating that?" and after explaining to them a few times that I can eat whatever I want, this is not a diet (and of course proving it with weight loss), they stopped making comments.

This is why I don't talk to my co-workers about that stuff anymore. One place I worked taught me that - the others all commenting on my eating habits and complaining about their bodies when they were eating rubbish!

It's ignorance...a lot of people fail to understand that when nutrient dense foods (with some exceptions) are generally not as calorie dense as the nutrient deficient foods they are eating. People see my big bag of food I roll in with everyday and can't fathom how I've possible dropped 20 Lbs in 3 months eating "that much food."

To boot, so many people have absolutely zero idea about how many calories their bodies need to do x, y, or z...or just to function sedentary. Too many people think they have to starve themselves...only eat a few carrot sticks and some celery, etc. Even here on MFP I'm shocked at the number of people who net so low a calorie intake and even think they should be netting to zero. It's ignorance in general...and laziness to not do the research and understand the science behind it all.

Just today I went grocery shopping with my mom. She constantly is telling me about what her friend makes and her friend uses this, etc etc. Her friend is extremely overweight, even more than me and I need to lose 80 lbs. I looked at my mom and said is your friend losing weight? Well, no, I'm just telling you what she does. Well mom, I don't think I"ll be following what your friend does, as I am losing weight and want to keep losing weight. Thank you very much!

My co-workers don't say much, but look at me like I'm crazy because I'm eating every 2 hours or so and I want to lose weight.
I have one co-worker who "wants" to eat better and lose weight but re-fills a cup with pretzels more than a few times a day....little does she know it adds so many calories to her diet.,

If folks minded their own business about what people are eating, we probably wouldn't have quite so many emotional bingers.

I have a co-worker who is uneducated like that... and I tried to break it down in kiddie terms for her... "I could eat this small handful of potato chips OR this entire bag of baby carrots..... which do you think will keep me full longest? Which do you think is going to give my body better fuel to keep moving throughout the day?"

this is the girl who carries in multiple bags of food and from what I see eats 3 course meals 4 times a day at work.... McDonalds, Chicken Chunks, leftovers from her giant chinese food meal the night before... a PIZZA box one day... gah...
