I'm new to MFP been on here for 11 days now and I keep coming in under my calorie goal...which is great but today I came in eating too much Protein....is that really bad??? Will that effect my weight loss or should I only be concerned about the Calorie intake??

  • staying within your calories seems to be the biggest concern. I don't think going over proteins or even fats is that much of a big deal but you will get tons of feed back on this post.

    Hey,
Eating too much protein in excess amounts can harm due to building up in the body. On the flip side not enough can also harm you. You need proteins and going over a little is okay but try not to go under too much either too often. stay really close as possible if you can. I struggle with proteins making sure I get enough so I do understand it can be hard to balance but do the best you can. God Bless, brenda

I haven't ever heard of any negative effects for going over protein, although I could be wrong. I've actually heard people tell me that when they went over protein (which will help your muscles...which is good because the more muscle mass you have the more calories you'll burn when you're just relaxing) and fiber they've lost more weight.

I tend to be over on protein and fiber as well, but some diets emphasize these two and tell you to eat less carbs or sugar. The one number I watch is sugar to make sure I'm not eating too much added sugar. Naturally occurring sugars from things like fruit are OK, it's the added sugars that you have to watch out for. Fat as well is one you want to stay close to.
