Dropping 10 pounds

I am on a 10 pound cut (having intentionally added 20ish pounds during the past year). Started by dropping 250 every couple of weeks from my previous bulking calories of 3000 to the point that I'm now at 2250. Am going to try from 2250, but may drop as low as 2000 if necessary. (I believe my TDEE is around 2500-2700.)
But from reading the MFP forums recently, I believe I have a much quicker/easier/better plan. I'll just drop my calories immediately to 1200. With that deficit, I'll hit my target in 20-25 days. Brilliant!
Are there any reasons why I wouldn't want to do this? Conversely, are there any arguments for my initial approach being better?

Why drop to 1200? Just don't eat anything until you lose 10lbs. Success!0

You want me to take my question about fitness, more specifically about weight loss...somewhere else...somewhere other than the MyFitnessPal forums? Where do you suggest is a more appropriate venue for my question?
ETA: And in case you haven't noticed, the thought process for my approach to dropping some weight that I explained in my OP happens for a lot of people every day here...they just don't always realize it...and yeah, many of them take "Plan B".0 -

Wow...You gave a warning that you were looking for a debate (basically) with informed opinions and that you were asking for explanations and suggestions....and you get called a moron and immature. WOW. That's messed up.0 -
I wasted a minute trying to figure out what you were saying.0 -

Ignore the meanies. It should work, just make sure you go to the gym and workout as hard as you can to burn all those calories you ate.0 -
Trolls will be trolls
Ah, but I'm a special kind of troll...if I am a troll (and I don't believe I am, but if I am), I'm a troll with an underlying message...a take-home point, if you will. Most trolls just do it for the LOLZ, but there's actually a moral to my story. I hope you'll stick around to figure it out.0 -

Ah, a person new to the internet. Allow me to explain: many messageboards are broken up into subforums. These subforums separate the different topics of discussion in an organized fashion. This is the "Fitness and Exercise" forum. Down the hall, there is a specific forum for "Motivation and Support". You may have been looking for the latter.0 -

I'm much more interested inlearning from others, dispelling bad information, busting myths, and giving solid fact-based advice than being anyone's weight loss spanx buddy.0 -

Who are you to question my reasons for asking this question?
Hmph. I guess we aren't all here for the same reason.0 -

no basically what's messed up is the fact that his question wasnt serious. he's basically mocking the people who are on 1200-1300 calorie diets. If you have a legit question, then I'd understand. But the sarcasm of people thinking they are so much better is getting annoying. ;]
For someone who doesn't know me at all, you seem to think you have a remarkably clear window into my intentions. While my method may not be "serious", that doesn't mean the subject is not. And on what basis are you accusing me of mocking anyone? I have numerous MFP friends who eat 1200 calories daily, and I suspect not a one of them could point out a time where I mocked them...(well, at least not for their daily calorie intake). It isn't what I do...it's isn't who I am. But don't let that get in the way of your narrative on what you believe should/should not be discussed...or how things should/should not be discussed...in the world according to you.
I started a new thread to discuss this very topic...and you barged in apparently for the sole purpose of besmirching my reputation and impugning my character. And guess what? It's getting annoying.0 -

For anyone curious as to why an extreme deficit and/or over-exercising may not be beneficial to sustainable weight loss, I suggest they read this article which offers a decent insight and some valuable 'food ' (haha) for thought.

TL;DR - it has a lot to do your metabolism adjusting to the lower calorie levels and your hormones going out of whack.0 -

And your purpose in this thread is what? To save us all from his mocking?? Who asked you for help? I believe the forum guideline state that if you are not interested in a thread, move on. So, maybe you are the one who should go elsewhere if you find it so annoying and have so little of a useful nature to add.
Edited to correct punctuation, cause I know bad punctuation irritates jof. lol0 -

He said nothing insulting, he said nothing attacking, he said nothing untoward . . . what he did was ask a question about the appropriateness of a possible plan of action and thoughtful advice on the plan. What he got in return were personal attacks, congratulations on being hangry.0
