Long Shot, but..
Any science buffs on? My brain is exhausted and I am stuck on an A & P question about DNA. I know I should know the answer but I can't move past staring at the question blankly. It doesn't help that I've been at it for a while, but I need to move on.

The question is if half of a DNA molecule has the bases GCATTCGA, what would comprise the other half of the DNA molecule?
A reminder or some help understanding would be welcome.

Google?
No dice.I tried Google long before I was desperate enough to resort to MFP. I admit, my Google-fu is not what it could be, however.

Oh well, good luck! Soon to be accountant here, don't know anything about DNA bit will have my fair share of fried brain.0

DNA, not RNA right? You're looking for the other half of the base pair that will form through hydrogen binding. Guanine binds with cytosine, and adenine binds with thymine.0

This should cover it:
http://cs.boisestate.edu/~amit/teaching/342/lab/structure.html
A pairs with T, and C pairs with G
So, CGTAAGCT should be the other half of GCATTCGA0 -
What she said - G binds with C; A with T...0

I feel SO dumb now. :blushing: :blushing:
Thanks for the help - I got lost in over-complicating things. Going to go hide under a rock now.0 -

My wife has a PHD in Genetics from Yale......enjoy!0 -
He's right! Easy way.... Rounded letters (guanine and cytosine) pair and straight letters (adenine and thymine) pair!!0

Long shot = not so long shot.
Thanks for the help, and for not making fun of me for asking an easy one... *disappears into the night in a cloud of shame*0
