I have decided to give myself a treat once a week and have a take away - I got a fright when I saw the cal content in pizza so I want to aviod that - any suggestions for a tasty take away that doesn't push the boat out too much?

how many cals do you want to use up?

i have fish & chips (1250 cals for a normal portion), KFC (about 900 for 3 pieces of chicken and chips), takeaway pizza (over 1000 cals for an 11 inch thin crust meat feast - not to mention garlic bread as well!!) i just make sure i have the calories to eat them!

We have a take away as a treat weekly too. I log it in the morning and work my other meals around it. Sometimes I go over, but it's only a day and this is a lifestyle change not a diet to me so days happen. Some days I don't hit my target but I don't rush to the fridge to get more calories in so I figure I shouldn't be too worried when I go over either.

    Edited: spelling errors sorry

Chinese or Indian doesn't have to be unhealthy as long as you make the right choices.

vegetable curries with tomato-based sauces and boiled rice (stay clear from cream or coconut based sauces and oily breads if you are trying to keep the cals down).

stir-frys with chicken or tofu and vegetables and boiled rice (avoid anything 'battered' or deep fried to keep cals down).

However as it's a rare treat I will usually have whatever I fancy and work it into my allowance.

Chicken kebab. Just found this last week!

Chicken breast, pitta, salad, and a bit of garlic mayo/chilli sauce.

Yummy, and less than half the cals and sats of a donner kebab or pizza :)

Otherwise, fish and chips are better than pizza in terms of macros.

Thanks ever so much for the advice and tips. I like the idea of logging it in the morning and planning round it. I got a shock when I pretended I was going to have a meat feast pizza (which I would do before dieting).

It does seem that you can enjoy more if you cut out or reduce meat :) x

but meat is one of the best sources of protein, which helps keep you full and helps you maintain lean body mass while you diet, so you should not cut meat out of your diet unless you are maintaining your protein count using other sources.

I do love a kebab - a lamb or chicken shish is a much better choice than a doner.

Not a takeaway I know, but if I fancy a pizza, pizza express do a really lovely low calorie pizza in the supermarket, and I honestly can't tell they are low calorie. I eat them with a large portion of home made oven chips and bam, pizza and chips for 700 cals.
