So I am a college student and at the moment I have NO groceries at home. I am leaving for spring break in a few days so I didnt want to spend money on groceries I wont eat over that time I am gone. I have been eating out a lot lately. (lately as in the past week or so.) I try to stay healthy with the food I choose at the restaurants but I do not get to choose the restaurant I go to, my friends do.

Just wondering if this is a horrible idea and if I should just go on ahead and buy groceries.... I exercise but I really feel like I am going to gain anyways. For example last night I over indulged on Mexican food and fried chips! :/

HELP

Try to find the healthy food wherever you go. Try not to eat fried. As for your friends, you need to speak up and tell them that everyone needs to take turns in choosing a restaurant. Plus, you can think creative ideas on how not to go out. Tell them that you can all save money by cooking home cooked meals. Don't give up, just try your best.

Completely understand where you're coming from and recommend going to the grocery store anyway...with a few suggestions.
    1. Plan out exactly how many meals you are going to still be here for before Spring Break.
    2. Once you know that, make a menu of what you want to (or should) eat at each meal.
    3. Make a list to take to the grocery store and only buy what is on the list.

I do this on a weekly basis for running a household of four. I make sure I check my cupboards and the fridge for things that need to be used, and I make a menu from there. Usually, it all takes about 20 minutes to plan and 45 minutes to shop...the benefit: everyone eats fresh, healthy food AND I end up saving $ with less waste.

You can still make healthier choices when eating at restaurants. I wouldn't spend much money on groceries, but buying a few things that you know you'll eat in the next couple days wouldn't be a bad idea. Eating out brings with it a lot of temptations....which means a lot of extra calories usually. I wouldn't settle for "well, I'm going to gain weight anyway so why not?" That's giving up! And just because you over indulged one evening doesn't mean you failed. Just start over again at the next meal or next day! Go buy some healthy snacks and fruit, almonds, etc. that you know you will eat in the next few days! Keep on track to reach your goals or what's the point?! Have a cheat meal once in awhile, but not every day and NOT cheat DAYS. You can still enjoy spring break but do your best now while you can! And why do your friends always get to decide where you go eat???

Get some bananas/apples. Eat these before you go out to eat, and then when you get to the restaurant, only eat HALF of your order, save the rest for later.

Well, it'll catch up to them. Or most of them (there are always a few who can eat nothing but pizza and drink nothing but beer and remain skinny). Way to try to make good choices. You will be happy when you graduate and you aren't 30 lbs heavier than when you started.

i completely understand about your friends eating whatever they want and b****ing about you wanting to eat healthy. i know its discouraging, but you have to always keep in mind that you're body is going to be way happier with you than their bodies are, no matter what size anyone is. just be proud that you are one step ahead of them in leading a good life. i personally like the idea of making an exact menu for the next few days and going from there. then there will be no waste, you can pick out whatever you want to eat with nutirtion facts available, and in the end its probably cheaper. if you end up having left over food, take it with you when you leave.

I think I'd buy some healthy stuff to get you through the next few days until you go home. Eating out is more expensive and the portions are generally larger than they should be. I also think that restaurant food is higher in salt because I always seem to gain even if I "eat healthy".
