Any serious home lifters?

I work out primarily in my basement gym "ThunderDome", yes I named it. I have an elaborate spread of equipment and benches. Just looking for any homemade ideas for equipment. Dont tell me to lift milk jugs. I am talking serious equipment made of metal and wood and will break a toe if dropped. I will post my $10 home depot dumbells later. I have a welder if you have schematics.

I lift at home, mostly with equipment bought off Craigslist or that I built. I love my Indian clubs and Bulgarian sandbag.

What about a chin up bar? Or a rower? Can you reinforce your ceiling?

I'd also suggest a wet bar and a petting zoo, but that might be a bit over the top. And messy.

I don't have a home gym (yet), but here is a DIY squat rack that looks pretty awesome.

Craigslist is a great resource. I bought two gym quality flat utility benches and a pair of 100lb prostyle dumbells for $80.

Nice! I need some heavier dumbbells, but nothing's been available lately. Making due with a short barbell and plates right now.

Hmm, that sounds wonderful. Our "gym" is in the basement along with the dogs, chicken incubators, and several dozen snakes. Petting zoo, check. I wonder where I could put a wet bar.

Search Craigslist high and low, people get the new years bug either this year or a few years ago and they have equipment that they stopped using for pennies on the dollar, which they are sick of hanging their laundry on. I have found exercise equipment is the easiest to negotiate.

I have got a weight room in my basement that is made of completely hand crafted machines or things I got off craigslist. I have a bench press, squat rack, overhead cable, and pull up bar that are all homemade.

Read "Rogue Warrior, the part where Marcinko was in prison. He would work out, outside in the snow and come back in steaming (literally)

My dad is building me some boxes for box jumps and such out of plywood. That's pretty much all I have in my garage gym that will be truly homemade, although I have refashioned the dip handles on my pullup/dip tower as a rack for squats and military presses.

Just a random strength tip; Work on your grip strength and every other heavy lift will get stronger. Especially something like barbell shrugs, sure you can shrug 405 with straps but what can your grip really handle..

looks like you've got more than we do!
We have a power cage, olympic bar and plates, adjustable bench with leg extension/curl and preacher curl attachment, hyperextension bench, pull-up/dip/roman-chair station, EZ bar, adjustable dumbbells.

A few months back we added a band system that helps expand the accessory work we can do.
Wish I had more insight, but I'm interested to see what others suggest. But I don't feel like I miss out on much have a variety of plates and a cage :P

I have needed a squat rack for the longest time, but have just been using my hubby for assistance. I am so making this, this weekend. I am so excited right now.

Believe it or not I could get a better workout with a minimal set, than by someone who works out at a gym and doesn't know how to lift, doesn't confuse muscles, doesn't superset, doesn't work complimentary muscle groups in the same workout. As long as you know how to lift and hit your muscles where it hurts (BTW if you don't hurt the next day you didn't really work out).

Ive seen your pictures you are eating weights, I think you are doing fine LOL

Wow I could modify that for barbell shrugs and upright barbell rows.
