Gaining 3lbs in one day.

I keep shifting up to 3lbs either lost or gained everyday. My progress bar this week looks like a heart-rate monitor and im not losing weight overall. Im 376lbs, what should I limit my calories to? I have been trying 2000, even though it says I can eat up to 3000 to lose weight. 3000 calories is just too much food for me especially since I am working out fairly vigorously 5days a week for at least an hour.

weight fluctuates throught the day. If I weigh..I do it in the morning ..after going to the bathroom..nekkid...and do it once a week. Dont weigh several times a day and log that..its not a good judge..cause it will include water, food, ect...

And you need to eat back your exercise calories. you dont want to ruin your metabolism anymore than it is

MG, what you're doing, very credibly, is changing your lifestyle, VERY well done.

this won't happen overnight as you know, you're in it for the long run,

so I'd like to suggest leaving the scales alone; and maybe only weigh in every 2 weeks; keeping your lifestyle change going is far more important than daily wight fluctuations.

    good luck.
  • One of my friends has a theory, find out the number of calories you should be eating every day to sustain your goal weight and eat that, then you should be used to it when you get to the goal weight and its all good. Adjust if you need more for exercise. So if you want to weigh 150lbs, look up how much someone of that weight should be eating for maintenance, it's going to be less than what it recommends for you now, but its going to be more realistic long term. If its not sustainable add 250 Cal until you think it is, then gradually take it back off again as you get closer to the goal weight. The algorithm they use to auto-calculate your calorie goal seems to get more weird the heavier you are so i don't really trust it.

And just remember, your weight can fluctuate by 5lb either way in a day. If you weighed yourself 5 times a day you'd probably be different weights every time. If you open up your diary to view im sure a lot of the more expert people on here will be able to give you some tips. In general you want protein more than carbs, eat lots of veg and some fruit and keep up your exercise. If those 5 days a week are cardio maybe mix it up with some lifting too, but im sure with more details the guys on here can give you some good advice on your routine. If its all lifting you could be adding muscle but im not good at fitness so you'd wanna talk it over with one of the fitness gurus here. It also takes your body a bit to get used to exercising so your muscles and stuff retain water to help them, out a bit. Don't be discouraged, just keep well hydrated and eat well and even if the scales dont shift, you'll start to feel better. Also consider doing measurements instead of just blindly trusting the scale and measure in once a month or so.
  • You may also wanna grab a weight loss buddy off the forums so you can keep each other in check. I know i snack less now because i have someone going "oh, i see you added a whole lot of ice cream here. How many vegetables did you eat that day? And why not? tut tut". But its ok because it means you get to remind them to be good too.

I gain when I am constipated (TMI sorry), or when I've had a meal that had a lot of sodium. The next day I either have to get cleared out, or drinks tons of water to flush out the sodium over load.
I weight myself on the same day, same time, once a week and use that as my over all weight. I also weight myself three times in a row, just to make sure my scale isn't playing with me, lol.
