I was thinking about signing up to do a Spartan Race August, but at the moment I am not in any shape to compete. I have been feeling apprehensive about signing up for the race because my friend did it last year and she ended up getting surgery for hernia in her abdomen. if I were to sign up, does anyone have any suggestions on exercises to do to get conditioned for the race? Any input is welcome :-)

Feel free to add me as a friend

  • I debated trying it this year too, but heard too many horror stories about all the injuries many people suffer from afterwards. Mostly cuts and scrapes which are fine, but it's the other injuries that seem less appealing.

The location was also moved recently in our city (Ottawa) to a racetrack. Because it's a horse facility... apparently not all the 'mud' is true mud if you know what I mean. It's been advised to ensure your tetanus shots are up to date prior to the race.
  • Are you talking about the one in Amesbury on the 11th? I was thinking about signing up for that too but I know I have a long way to go before I could do it. My cousin, who is in amazing shape and has done this and the Tough Mudder before said the best things to work on are push ups, pull ups and running. Also, I'm not sure I'd do it if I wasn't on a team. She said some obstacles, you will most likely need someone to help push you up or pull you up walls, etc. I'm still planning on working towards it but am holding back on signing up at the moment.

I want to do this! Not this year.... my son's girlfriend wants to do it with me, so I will wait for her to learn to run..... we will do the Ottawa one!
