No longer a skeptic....

When I first began "My Fitness Pal", I was not really sure that
this was really going to work, how can a social network help a person
achieve their weight loss goals. But, after being a member for almost
a month now, I am no longer a skeptic. I really like the regiment of
adding my food, and exercise into the website, it really opens ones
eyes to really see how much a person really eats, and helps with
making the right decision on what to eat. The support is nice too,
hopefully I can get a few more friends to help motivate me. So far
I have lost 9 pounds, and until I reach my goal weight, I will remain
a big fan of "My Fitness Pal".

Great job. Yes, losing 9 pounds in a month is definitely motivating. I wish I could get my sister to do this. She always says "I can't eat like you eat and I never could." Her friend, who only eats 700 cals a day, told her to completely give up bread. I honestly wish she'd give this a try instead of complaining about how she can't diet like normal people.0

I felt the same way you did when I began. I had tried everything and could not lose the weight. I love MFP because it makes you accountable for every bite you put in your mouth; plus when you get your family and friends to join you, it makes it even easier. I have lost 18 pounds since the end of January eating things I like to eat, including bread every day kwardklinck. I'm so glad a friend told me about this site. I don't dread this year's Easter pictures nearly as badly.0

Yea... we're pretty awesome.
Seriously, though, welcome aboard and BIG congrats on your loss so far! :drinker:0 -
I could never give up a whole food group. It's been drilled in my head from doctors and different articles I've read. I also know that I'm going to fail if I try to eat in a way I can't maintain after I reach my goals. My family, including aunts, my mom, and my sister have always done weird crash diets and cleanses. They try to lose weight every way except the right way. Nobody stops to think that maybe the reason I have been more successful than they have, is because I refuse to diet that way. My diets are always about activity and portion control.0

I just hit my THIRTY POUNDS LOST mark today - and this has been the first time I've done this with so little pain! I lost about the same through Curves back in 2004 but I did it with exercise and eating that wasn't sustainable in "real life" (I was out of work at the time). AS soon as I was back to my long hours, long commute, work life I put the weight back on.
Here I'm doing it right and it's almost FUN! I love the support I get, and I love seeing exactly what each little choice costs me. I went to outback Friday and even though I'd almost fasted all day (an apple and a banana) I had to SERIOUSLY cut back on what felt like a healthy food choice if I wanted to go negative (burn calories) for that day. Even after five months of logging I was shocked! That's the benefit of this site! I had 1.5 coconut shrimp (yum), a Caesar salad (no croutons), salmon and vegetables, and water to drink. I would have thought I could have had 3 shrimp plus a glass of wine! LOVE MFP!
Good luck to you!:flowerforyou:0 -
Congrats on your weight loss!!! This site has been great for me too. I love being able to keep track of my daily calories and know how many I have left to get through the day. Keep up the great work!0

Way to go! I am new to the site and can't believe how much food I had been eating. Tracking calories is the right way to go. Keep up the good work.0
