I have just put my calories up to 1400

After reading up on BMR and TDEE I have upped my calorie goal to 1400 from the original 1200 MFP suggested.

I have an irrational fear I'll gain, even though its not possible! Has anyone else done this?

My calories are now 1650 but there are lots of people eating a whole lot more and losing fat.
  • You migh at first so it is suggested that you do this in 20% incriments until you get there rather than jumping up 200 calories a day immediately. Still, you might gain at first. Make Sure You Are Doing Strength Training so that what you gain Can Become Muscle.

I lasted about a week on mfps 1200 then a few days at 1400 before i read up on bmr and tdee and now im eating about 1550-1600. It was the best thing I ever did! I feel soooo much better and am still losing at about the same rate, slower but healthier! Good luck

I did the exact same thing last month after being stuck at the same weight in a plateau for a few months at 1200 calories. At some point my body started holding on to the calories at the lower range and I wasn't losing anymore.
I was also afraid of a gain but actually the opposite happened and the scale finally moved down a bit. I don't think 1200 calories was enough for me personally.
    Good luck!!

    Yep, me, I did it!
It's working well for me, but my issues were that on 1200 I:
    1. felt ravenously hungry
    2. would go over cals by about 100 daily
    3. would then feel terrible about myself

So I did the whole "roadmap' thing and found out that I could eat more. I conservatively upped it to 1390 and life is sooo much sweeter. I do only lose about a half pound to a pound a week but to me, steady progression in the right direction paired with good quality of life WINS.

I'm up to 1700/day but usually range between 1400- 1800/day. my body seems to like the zig zag and I lose around 1.5 lbs a week give or take. I am fairly active in my day to day life and I exercise at least 5 days a week 30+ minutes. I found that the 1200/day only sets me up for failure because I'm always hungry and I used to freak if I went over. With the zig zagging if I'm over one day I will compensate the next and eat less cals.
