I got some free stuff today.... goji and chia

So one of my neighbors came over today and dropped off a pound of goji berries, and a pound of chia seeds..... She accidentally ordered 11 pounds of chia when she meant to order one pound..... ( how she missed that on her bill, I don't know, but I will take the free chia.:).

And she ordered goji berries and she said she really disliked the taste of them and offered them to me. I have never tasted either thing. I know I can use goji berries the same way I would use any dried berry... I will probably use them in smoothies.... but I will have to learn how to use chia..... Yay for google!

Anyway, if you have used either f these, can you tell me if you actually think either one is really making any difference in your health? I'm not looking at this from a weight loss perspective at all.... tho if they help, awesome.

  • I put two tablespoons of chia seeds on my oatmeal for breakfast everyday. I used to use flax but after researching it, chia is more beneficial to you health wise. You can eat the seeds or eat ground chia, it makes no difference, where as flax has to be ground. Apparently it has more antioxidants than blueberries and it is very high in fibre. They say it helps in weight loss because it forms a sort of gel when the seeds get wet so it fills you up more and faster. I eat it for the fibre plus it is fairly high in calcium. I also put 2 tablespoons of raw bran into my oatmeal as well. This breakfast really fills me up and gets me to lunch without being hungry. It will make a difference in your health if you aren't a big eater of fibre. The only downside is the friggin seeds get stuck in my teeth.

I did see where 1 ounce of seeds has 11g of fiber... that's pretty impressive, IMO.
