Am I eating to little?

Hello guys so i've been doing insanity for about 2 weeks now but until this week i've recently started logging my calorie intake. One of my goals is to lose 17lbs. I'm currently 162lbs 5'6 and 20 yrs old. i've calculated my calories based on the insanity guide and according to it i should be eating 2444 calories. However for the past week i've been eating about 1800. Is this bad? theoretically it would lead to weight loss due to the calorie deficit. But do you think it might cause body fat to retain due to the lack of calories? thanks for your help guys :)

If you eat too little, the risk is that you'll eventually cave and binge up all the calories that you lost AND more.
If you can control yourself at 1800 everyday, then I think it's okay.

I'm not a nutritionist or any type of professional doctor, but I do know that I have been eating really little calories recently and it has helped me lose. It really does depend on your body and how it handles the deficit.

Wow thanks for the post. so let me summarize what i understood from it. so we're suppose to consume our TDEE which is based on our BMR and the modifier. according to the amount of calories i need in insanity is 2755.063 but to lose fat i subtract 500 which would give me 2255.063 calories. if i want to avoid metabolic reduction i need to consume this amount of calories; while all this still produces a calorie deficit for weight loss. thanks and sorry for all the questions :)

If I understood you right, you got it. To sum up:

Figure out your BMR, multiple by your activity level (which includes exercise) to get your TDEE.

Subtract 20% from your TDEE to get your calorie goal (unless that number is below your BMR). Do not eat back exercise calories.

Make sure you're logging accurately and weighing and measuring everything.
