Random thoughts about food, weight, and losing
Just some random thoughts about trying to lose weight with exercise, attempting to limit food, and being mid-40s. I am like a lot of people who have that "normal" weight creep over time with lack of motivation, injuries, and liking the taste of "bad" food. I am one of those folks who could "lose 5 pounds in a week" when I was younger and also could eat 5 McDonald's Cheeseburgers, large fries, and a large coke without even gaining weight. Then age hit, and that changed. Also, I have an observation.... When I was younger I could be out walking after dark or riding my bike after dark and no one gave a second thought.... then as a late 30s to mid-40s guy people started to give strange looks like "what are you doing out here at this time of night?".
So after surgery this past fall I also gained more weight and decided that I would finally start back to the gym with cardio as my main focus then add in weights and see how things go. I started on this plan the end of the first week of December. Along with that; tracking my workouts and my food intake here. It has been a week shy of two months and I am 9 lbs down. Interesting to me since I am doing a pretty good pace on the elliptical (can't run because of surgery on my foot and permanent disability because of it) for an hour. The machine says I am at least 650 calories per workout. My calories here say I am under by an average of 500 calories per day.
That was my background thoughts and here are my thoughts focused to conclude this: I find it very interesting to be down only 9 lbs after almost two months. It is my belief that I need to drop about 15 more lbs in order to get to my goal of seeing my abs but I tell you it is harder then I thought it would ever be and taking longer then I thought it would take. Yup I know the muscle weighing more then fat theory but I am still intrigued that for someone (me) that used to actually be pretty skinny and really was able to drop weight pretty quickly is just down 9 lbs. Oh, and I have not gone to the gym for about 7 days total in the 7 weeks but have made it every day besides those 7. And every day it has been a full hour on the elliptical followed by weighs.
That all - no real purpose to writing this except to get the thought out of my head.
